an sisterfriend in need of assistance

Hi, I have been on GC for sometime now and I have chat with some very nice helpful members of DST. I have ran into a bit of bad luck and I need some suggestions. The problem is I'm a freshman at Howard University and because of the large student body, the school doesn't have housing for all of its students and I'm one of the 1,000 without housing. I have been looking for an apartment in the DC area and no one wants to rent to me because I'm a student and my parents are unable to help me. I'm just looking for suggestions on other solutions so if anyone has any please e-mail me or post an response.

Thank You

a good suggestion would be start looking for a roommate!!!! RIGHT NOW!!!!!! SINCE you already know what your situation is, start looking for a roommate and a job, and save enough money, to bargain you way into an apartment. By that I mean, have a least enough money for first and last month's rent; that Way you can bargain your way to the landlord to get an apt. By doing that if you don't find a roommate, you will still be able to foot the bill. Are your parents willing to co- sign for you?

Hey Shani,
I sent you a listing of a suite for rent.
I'm not sure if your familar with DC, but it's in Bethesda, near metro and rather cheap for that area.
Check your email and PM

Shani - It's been a while since I was at Howard (12 years) but are The Towers full? I also lived in the Mondrian for a minute. Check with property managers. They often can hook you up with other students looking for roomates. If you have a car, I'd suggest checking out Silver Spring.

Another option...contact the off-campus housing offices at Georgetown, American & GWU. Often, they can offer some leads and you may also hook up with other area students looking for apartments.

Since it's near summertime, The Towers should be clearing out and there should be some open spots in there. If you're bored...feel free to stop by 816W - and let me know who's living up in there nowadays. LMAO at some of the stuff that went on up in that joint!

hi shani
i just graduated from howard and i've had many friends who did not have anywhere to stay because of overcrowding. i would look in all the administrative and class buildings for fliers on needed roommates or housemates. and good luck with it.

Thank you all ssssssoooooooo much for your responses!!! I'm working two jobs this summer so that I can save up for and place to stay. But the ones that I have looked in seem alittle unreasonble. For example an studio for 1400/ month. Treblk I'll e-mail you ASAP, you'd described an nice very place, plus its in my budjet. Thank you ALL for your suggestions I really appreciate it.

Hi. I would suggest you also check out some apartments in Prince George's County, MD. I live in Ft. Washington and there are a few apts. with 1 bedroom that start at like $500.00 which isn't bad. But like some others suggested before me, you should try to find a roommate because living by yourself can be very costly. I did it for a year, and it was not fun.

You might also want to check out Oxon Hill, Temple Hills, Forestville, and Suitland, there are plenty of Metro bus stops in those areas, if you don't have a car.
