well DUH!!!
Home from work again today thanks to all the little germy children I work with 40 hours a week. Watching daytime TV and a commercial for the news at noon comes on, for KCAL 9 (sort of like WGN in the Chicago area). There's the usual teasers for the news, and at the end the newscaster says something like "Fraternities and sororities may be going dry in the next year..." and then the camera came back to him and he looked at the camera like he didn't have anything to say.
I think I will skip my afternoon Law and Order rerun to watch that. Wonder if they're going to say anything positive, or interview a member of a GLO.
More to come.

So here's how it went, all 30 seconds of it...
In a nutshell, the UC-Berkeley powers that be have now outlawed alcohol at fraternity parties. There was one shot of the second story of a fraternity house, and lots of shots of empty beer wrappings around garbage cans on the street. They interviewed some guy in a suit who I suppose was a university official, but didn't flash his name or position on the screen. No Greek students were interviewed.
UCB cited the incidents of sexual assault, etc., that had allegedly happened at fraternity houses, and said that they hoped this ban on alcohol at the houses would help with that. Nothing on where they got the statistics, nothing on how many members of the NIC have already gone to dry housing, no interviews with students with complaints.
Now I don't know about you, but sexual assault happened on my campus in AND out of the fraternity houses (in fact, more of it happened outside to my knowledge). Don't students have parties in their rooms with alcohol? Why aren't they outlawed as well? All it takes is one drunk guy to commit sexual assault, and liquor is liquor whether it's served in a fraternity house or someone's room.
Yet another hoosier in our lives.

KappaStar, what does that sentence mean? As a proud grad of Indiana University and a nearly rabid Hoosier fan, please don't tell me that our proud nickname now has some strange slang connotation???

Did anyone catch this on CNN? They had a window to the left of the reporter and you could see 3 words on the top -not sure what it said I was listening but when I took a look, underneath those words it had Delta Delta Delta-
(Could be wrong as I glimpsed it) I thought that was a really poor choice as you never know how people might interpret the link. It appeared to me like they just wanted some graphics for the spot....just plain thoughtless.

That is exactly what I meant. I've got nothing against IU at all...one of my best girlfriends went there (an AXiD), and I was jealous of all the fun stuff she got to do. One of the few disadvantages of having gone to a small school.
I don't even think hoosier was a Hoosier anyway.

Funny you would say that. At the DG luncheon, I sat next to the most darling little thing and she told me she wanted to be a reporter. This girl appeared to have all the necessary qualificatons-mental and physical (for TV) Her prof told her she would never make it! Where in the heck did THAT come from-to a FRESHMAN, 3.7 gpa girl??? Did he perceive her as too "fluffy"?
No explanation was given. I told her not to let one idiot destroy her dream (plus a lot more) Maybe some college instructors don't want to encourage these young ladies due to their OWN bias!

BTW, did anyone catch Dr. Laura on Wednesday?
I didn't hear as much as I should have, but apparently her guest was a father of a girl who was a freshman at University of Michigan. She went to a Fraternity party, was drugged - but apparently not raped, went home to the dorm and while trying to adjust the window fell out to her death. He is suing the Fraternity and Sorority.....
1. Does anyone know more about this
2. Which GLOs does it affect - if nobody minds telling

Of course it didnt. But in out litigous society its sue 'em all and let the courts sourt them out. We can thank MADD for that. They are the ones who got this whole "spocial host responsibility" thing happening. WTF ever happend to individual responsibility? I cant stand MADD. They started with a great cause and now have turned into a neo-temperance movement. Hey, message to MADD: We tried the whole prohibition thing about 70 years ago. It didnt work for us. Grasp the fact.
