Arrow The Oscars

I stayed up to almost 1AM Monday to see and hear Halle and Denzel get their well deserved props at the Academy Awards. It was also exciting to listen to and see Sidney Poitier's tribute.

Last night, Jay Leno called the Oscars a "black sweep". I was glad about that occurance, but do believe that this was something long overdue. Incidentally, it was the lowest rating for the Oscars.

Do you think that there will be a strong Black nominee presence at the Oscars in the future? Or do you think that Hollywood might back off for a minute? I say this because there are naive people in the world who do believe that there is a connection with ratings and nominees. I wouldn't be surprised if some sly jocks stated that the Oscars were the Black Oscars.

I was not impressed with the wins. I think Halle and Danzell were given the award just for good measure. Danzell even made the comment that he had done better work. Imagine a Black man winning for portraying an inner city character. I saw no great feat in the role.

What sickens me is the fact that some folks in our media have given this year's Oscar terms like " the Black Oscars" or something black-related , but yet only 2 african americans received awards out of 25 (info from www.oscars.com). That's only 8%!

IT is hardly a Black Sweep........but I think since it was best Actor and best Actress we know they were gonna jump on that like it was going out of style. Let us remember the main reasons for Denzel winning best Actor was:
1. His Role in Training Day was off the hook

and

2. They were not going to pull the same stuff they did with the Hurricane Movie.

Denzel should have won it then but outside influences of families against the role Denzel played in that movie denied him his oscar. (ie letters were sent to the committee stating that if the voted for Denzel in the role of Ruben Carter in the Hurricane it would be justfying the deaths of those people who were killed many years ago)

Thumbs down

Okay I went to see Halle's movie last night because ole girl won an Oscar for her performance ... but I will tell you I was not impressed. The movie started out slow and it ended even slower, it was like watching paint dry. I have seen better clips and trailers of the other movies that the best Actresses were in.... I am going to see in the bedroom and then a beautiful mind .. I know they can't be worse then Monsters ball.

I have a candid comment I want to make but it may ruin whatever plot the movie was trying to make. I will say she won an Oscar but being a submissive black women .... I have seen better acting and I have seen her do much better acting ....

This might I add is just my honest opinion, I was truly sick after watching this movie ...one sex scene was close to a porn shot ...lord she won for that. Seen better in that department too!!

I really can't believe she got an Oscar for that ..... and the same with Denzel, he did a great job in training day, that movie surprised me but he has done much better and look they give him an Oscar for being the bad guy ...
Oh Please ...this is the first time I watched the entire awards and then took the advice and went to see what I thought was an award winning performance ...NEVER AGAIN !!!!!
