Interesting Situation

The other day, I was in the local Greek shop having letters put on a hat. I noticed a sign on the wall behind the register that said the following:

"Until further notice, this store will not accept orders from XYZ sorority due to the language used in this store by member Jane Doe"

What do you guys think of that?

Sad, but funny. It would be interestng to know how long the sign has been up and what it would take to "take it down".

Are there other Greek shops in town?

Perhaps this will enlighten every Greek that no matter what they do, how they act/what they say affects their chapter, fraternity/sororities both on campus and nationwide.

Pretty harsh, but it must have been really bad!

An apology is in order.

When my friend and I looked at it and laughed, the guy saw us, and was like, "Hey, all I want is an apology."

Seems to me this is a pretty good way to get one.

If you think about it, it was a GREAT idea. No different than posting hot checks at the grocery store. I'd hope she'd have enough guts to go over and take care of her business. I kind of wonder too how long it has been up!

Who says she was in the wrong? Haven't any of you ever dealt with a salesman who lied to you and gave you lousy service.

I know for a fact that I am going to curse out one particular furniture salesman that has been jerking me around on my new furniture that was supposed to be delivered two weeks ago.

Thumbs up however in the real world...

you can get a lot more accomplished being positive, even in the face of a fool, than falling to their level.
it sounds like this person needs to eat a little crow and move on -- whether he or she likes it or not.

Ummm....what do I think of driving business away because of one person's behavior? From a retail standpoint, that's pretty @#$%ing stupid. Oh well, guess I can't buy any letters there now. I'll just have to go to one of the kazillion sites on the internet or make my own.

Yeah, but this is the only place on campus that you can get custom stuff in a matter of hours. Plus the fact that if I were a member of that organization, I would really, really want the sign taken down.

It seems kinda like overkill.

On the one hand, posting XYZ's name and the girl's name publically is a great way to force an apology not only out of the girl, but also of the officers, especially the president of the sorority as well.

However, it's a pretty low blow if you asked me. I would say "Hey, what if what I say is possibly taken out of context, or even in context, would I be posted up on that board?" Would they put me up there?" If the store treats its customers like that, and is willing to lose an entire sorority because of one girl's comments, do I really want to do business there?

Personally, I'd think the answer would be no for me. I'd be half tempted to rally a boycott of the store from EVERY GLO on campus and starve them out and make them apologize for doing that to XYZ.

Red face

Postings like that in stores and grocery stores for bad checks for the public to see is illegal

But members or officers I should say, better beat feet to that store and offer an apology if it is warrented ASAP!

Personally, I think that it's a bad move on the store's part. Maybe they are the only show in town when it comes to Greek items. However, we have this newfangled thing called the Internet that has hundreds of Greek shops available at the touch of a button.

If I were a member of the sorority in question, I think I'd have a talk with the manager to get the situation resolved. Why punish a group for the actions of one person? Maybe that person had a legitimate reason to gripe (although I wouldn't use foul language in public just because I wouldn't want my sorority to look bad). Regardless, I would be very upset by the posting of that note and wouldn't shop there, no matter what organization I was affiliated with.

I can't imagine that a store owner would do this unless it was the last straw. Perhaps the member in question had not been very ladylike on a few occasions & the owner wanted to make a point. I agree with everyone who's posted and not knowing the entire context makes it hard to decide it reflects badly on XYZ, the girl, the store or the owner.
