UNHOUSED.....STILL CAN HAVE A BLAST!!!!
Hello fellow peoples. Well, as you can tell from my subject...this is a thread about an unhoused thing. My sorority, Sigma Alpha, is unhoused at LSU. I was wondering two things, first, what other frats or soroities are unhoused out there, and second, do you have any MAIN problems not having a house? Any sort of problem at all? But remember, even though we are unhoused, (this is for anyone) we still know how to have fun.

Hello! Here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, there are three sororitites and four fraternities. None of the sororities have a house and three of the guys do. The main problem we have is not having a regular meeting place. It would be nice to do so, especially in consideration to the ritual. Besides that, we have a lot of stuff that could go into a house, like awards and stuff!

Yeah, but we still have lots of fun without a house!
It does suck not being able to host parties....and always finding somewhere to have meetings, sorority get-togethers, etc. But we do survive, eh Sarah?!

My sorority didnt have a house, none of the sororities did. It was fine and we had no problems. We had a regular meeting place on campus--provided by the school. Hosting parties was no problem because we had sisters who lived off campus in their own house/appartment--or we had parties in the woods or by the river. We never had a problem and still had a BLAST!

My sorority's (Alpha Sigma Kappa) Alpha Chapter has a house, but none of the other chapters do.
The main problem with being un-housed is that without a central place to call our own (even a permanent office-area or meeting room somewhere on campus), we're rather disunified in any of our endeavors. Yes, the un-housed chapters accomplish a lot and have lots of fun anyway - yet I still wish houses were a reality for them.

My best friend went to the Univ. of San Diego--they didn't have houses there--but "floors" in university housing. So one floor of the apartment buidling was all Gamma Phi's, one ADPi's, etc.
I visited her many times during college and while I lived in my house up at USC, I alsways thought this apartment floor arrangement was great, too. They had a place to meet and hang out, but they all had their privacy, too.

Do you have plans to build a house, there? I know that is a tough place to compete without a house. It's a big greek school, and everyone just about has houses, isn't it?
I know that we were unhouse for a while and we just had to outdo everyone with our rush parties. In fact, I ran over budget on one, but it went down as the fanciest one ever! It was a lot of fun, too-a Hawaii theme.
I wish you luck.

Hello everyone. thanks for writing back.
Yes, it is strange not having a house on LSU's campus because all of the other frats and sororities are housed. We have a building on campus where we have our meetings, and we do our Rush events in rooms in the union or at someoen's apartment. It is just hard to do other things such as o"Open House" during Spring testing when we are the only ones who cant do it because it would be weird if we did Open house with another sorority while they are trying to recruit new members for themselves..sigh....oh well. All that matters is that the unhouses business does not affect the bond between sisters or brothers. So everyone enjoy!!!!

I'm wondering about how much does it cost to build a house, and doesn't one have to recieve permission to start building one?

It all depends on how large the house is and how many Greeks it is going to accomodate as to how much it costs to build. Yes, you definitely have to have permission to start building one. I know that DZ has to get approval from Headquarters before building. My brother is a member of KA and they are in the process of building a new house right now. They had to get city permits, school approval, etc. A lot of red tape to go through before building occurs!

At my school none of the sororities had houses, but certain sisters rented houses around town and we just had a revolving chapter house! SO COOL! I just WISH we did have one...I am going to make that my life's work! GETTING JWU SORORITIES HOUSES!
