Red Cross & United Way

So what does everyone think of the Red Cross not using the funds for the 9/11 victims? Would you be mad if you gave them a donation and found this out?

Today, United Way is collecting at my husband's job site. Years ago, their top dogs were caught using donations to fund penthouse suites and prostitutes.

I wish I could just find an actual victim and give them the money instead of these charities.

I agree. There should be a law that says the charities must spend the donations the way the people that donate the money wants.

Hmmm...this is really interesting. I learned in a polisci class about how when you donate to an organization...any organization, that most of the money goes towards their operating costs...that "she who says 'organization' says 'oligarchy'." The money you may have donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund may have gone to pay someone's salary, a press release, extra stationery, or travel. It sucks, but those bills have to be paid before philanthropic things can be done. Aside, I know the Red Cross has done wonderful things in the wake of 9/11, as they have in the past.

Hmmm, if you don't want to donate to the Red Cross or United Way, find out if your organization is doing anything to help members who were impacted. Establish a memorial scholarship fund in the name of someone who was killed. Contribute to a specific organization with a specific goal, like the Cantor Fitzgerald fund. There is so much you can do.
