Lightbulb Origins of GLO Annual Events in Greek Life Forum/ Active and Inactive Chapters

Part I

Regarding the question posted in Greek Life about Annual Events, does anyone know when and why Alpha Gam Lip Jam was started? Also How do/did you hold it on your campus? For ours, it was part of Greek Week, but I believe some chapters hold it on its own.

Part II

I know that we had a thread about out chapters that are active and inactive and what the IHQ website says and I just wanted to respond. I looked in my new member guide and it says something different than the website, which says we have 179 chapters and 117 active I believe. Well from my manual I counted 182 total and 63 of them are inactive (I included Tampa Bay, making 35% of our chapters inactive. Which isnt bad at all in my opinion even though you dont want to see any of them go. I did find it interesting though that most of the ones that are IA (inactive) are ones from large school. For some reason I thought it would be the opposite.

As you can see I have no life and really dont need to be up at 3 am. (She says baby, its 3 am I must be lonely) Ok,Im gone!

Part I - What is Alpha Gam Lip Jam? Never even heard of that.

Part II - The reason I think chapters at larger schools go inactive is due to competition. I am from Alpha Mu Chapter at PSU and I can vouch for how mud slinging there is during rush, and how competitive things can be when there are SO many chapters to choose from. There were 21 NPC sororites at PSU, several locals/service ones, several major based ones, business ones, etc...the list goes on and on.

Erica, we haven't done Alpha Gam Lip Jam on my campus either, but I believe it's a lip syncing contest which raises money for the foundation. Can anyone else elaborate?

Ok wow, thought all chapters did it. Leslie is right Alpha Gam Lip jam is a lip singing/Karaoke contest. Ours was part of Greek Week and they sold tickets. All the money went to the charities involved.

I here you about competition ees, Michigan is pretty brutal also.

I guess that the same gremlin that counts the chapters did the Famous AGDs page. Unfortunately, our collegiate alumnae coordinator sent out a newsletter which noted that some famous sisters were from our chapter..none were.

I'm from Gamma Tau in Georgia. When I got my Arc, the Quarterly said that I was from Gamma Nu, UTenn Knoxville.
