Make sure the shoes are well broken-in. Wear them only a few mintues at a time to begin with. Also, wearing them for a few minutes at a time will let you practise walking in them without stumbling/tripping/rolling your ankle.
Other suggestion: Look for character heels. They make more then just the standard anymore, and they're made for dancing, which USUALLY means comfortable and well-balanced.

Just stumbled upon these. Not bad for a guitarist.

Last night I dreamt that my cousin gave birth to a baby boy instead of the girl she was told she would be having. And that she named him MANOLO. Not Manuel or Emmanuel. Manolo.
I think I have been reading this thread too much.

Ok...I have kept my mouth shut far longer then I normally would have, because I felt sorry for you.
There's this thing called trying too hard. I do believe you've been there and beyond.

I want to steal this for my signature.
Back to shoes... I'm always a bit scared and a tiny bit clueless when it comes to shoes. If it doesn't match exactly I panic and someone has to talk me into something a little more adventurous than standard black pumps.
The other day I went to Marty and Liz and spent 2 hours deciding between 8 pairs of shoes: a pair of Steve Maddens, Etienne Aigners, Cole Haan, Ann Taylor Loft (adorable pink tweed heels that I have absolutely nothing to wear with but was ready to build a wardrobe around), and about 4 pairs of Ann Klein. I bought the Steve Maddens, the Cole Haan's, and the Aigners. For the first time since I was 5, I have blisters on my toes from shoes.
(If I spelled any of these wrong, forgive the poor clueless twit who is just now getting acquainted with anything more expensive than Old Navy flip flops.)
The next day I went for my first pedicure and have been back twice to visit the pink ones...

OK, I have a question for all the shoe lovers. I have some health problems that are going to require me to wear comfier shoes. Does anyone know of brands that are squooshier but still cute? Or know of some delightful inserts that will pad my poor feet?
It wouldn't be an issue if I was just at the office all day - I could wear heels and not have to walk much - but part of my job is occasionally meeting clients at one of our buildings and walking them to another one. I work at a consulting firm, and flats are unacceptable. Also, I'm only 23, so nothing matronly or ugly please!
