Okay... sorry I had to go to lunch with the office... love Fridays (the day not the place... though it is good too).

I wasn't sorry that I had asked my question. I even like the discussion that has followed. I am sorry that one of my sisters was involved in the headbutting (But I am proud that I am her sister) I am sorry that we all can't just be me and you, that we have to be White Arin and Black Danielle (or Hawaiian Sandy). My eyes did bulg when I say Mr. OTW... I want to start a movement that when we fill out "racial" information that we mark other on the form and write American on the space provided. But we have had this thread before... I remember repling to it.

This is my point... and with your help, I've figured it out (thanks for the link).

NPC and NPHC are not White or Black... we have different rules. We have different RUSH rules. I don't think that NPHC would ever agree to NPC's rules, or vise versa. I would like for us to join but I don't think that we could ever agree to our rules. I would like for PNMs to look at joining a NPC or NPHC based on the same reasons we want PNMs to look at NPC groups. Based on the groups traditions, based on what the group stands for, and based on how they feel with that group, not because Rachel Rusher has the same hair color or skin color as me.

I will continue to correct people who misuse the words in print (that is really the only place where you can tell the difference).

Now onto the thread...

I agree with the other historian... we have to look at the facts at the time of the inception of the orgs. We cannot hide the fact that in the late 1800's and early 1900's Protestants were not as enlightened as now. But really we can't blame WASPs only, that each group held to their own. It was just WASPs that were yelling and putting the rules in writing. It was society at the time.

I am proud of my background. I am proud to be an American, I am not a C, nor W... I am a female from Kentucky, who happens to carry genes from a father who has English, Scottish, and Swedish genes and a mother who has genes from German, and either Native American or African (don't know forsure). I am me. I am an American Mutt!

Unhappy Smile turned into a frown

Browsing through and came across this thread. And although I enjoyed the conversation, what really began to pierce me in the heart was the discussion of heritage.

Irish, Italian, British, German, all countries all nationalities that you can identify with if you choose.

To Blacks/African-Americans that is a luxury we can only imagine. I mean to be able to definitively say that my ancestors are from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone is practically impossible.

To look in the mirror and say that the hair color (red), eye color (pale blue), skin color (olive) closely aligns you with one nationality is truly amazing. To have the ability to research your family history, or to have your last name REALLY mean something rarely happens in the black community.

Even the term African-American attempts to connect a group to its heritage but it just doesnt seem to be enough.

Hope that made sense.
