First off they wouldn't beat me cause we are a "non hazing organization"....

Second... Like I said I don't think people are just going to look at one person and think that the whole organization is about that i just feel if you are trying to recruit people and want people to have interest in your organization then you shouldnt want people seeing you doing all that.

Ok and let me clarify what i mean by smoking and drinking , a cigarette and a beer or a black and mild i have no problem with them in your letters but weed, crack or any other drugs i do and a couple of beers here and there is no problem but hard alcohol in the bottle and drinking it straight out of the bottle.. Like gin, vodka things of that nature and drinkin it just with out no remorse in front of people i do have a problem with that.
ANd i have seen it happen on other organizations on our yard....
Now before anyone else downs anyting else that i am saying please understand exactly what i am talking about.

ANd if people are seeing you high and sloppy drunk no i dont believe people should see you like that at all. Not in your letters if anything!!!

This was never about illegal drugs - the whole point of the thread is that IMO it's stupid to say a legal activity (smoking) is unbecoming to your letters.
But umm, thanks for the added info.

 | They do do that. As a bartender, you are responsible for cutting people off at a reasonable point. Especially if they're driving. One of my friends is a bartender, and I have seen her walk out of the bar to tell a guy, "If your [clearly drunk] friend gets in the driver's seat of that car, I'm going to have to call the police." (She is legally obligated to do that.)

Obviously theory and practice are two different things, and this is not always done. But there have been cases where bartenders have been held responsible for the actions of somebody they've served alcohol to who ended up driving drunk.

 | See, the thing is, if you're out smoking weed or crack in public, you're really stupid. If you're drinking vodka straight out of the bottle, something is wrong with you. These are bigger issues than being in letters while doing it.

That's awesome though that your friend does that. So many times I've seen bouncers watching drunk asses with keys in their hands getting into cars and leaving. They know they're responsible, but they never do anything. Your friend's bar is pretty smart for having them do that!Quote:

 | It's not just her friend's bar.

The bartender and the bar will be held responsible if they let a customer get too drunk. If something unfortunate happens after the customer gets behind the wheel, the bar and bartender could get in trouble too. That was the first thing I learned in Liquor Commission class.

Not only have I had to cut people off, I've wrestled for keys, and thrown people in cabs. I've called the cops on people who got behind the wheel before. I've made enemies because of that, but shit -- anything to get one more drunk driver off the road.

Maybe it's just the ones around here then. Sandy that's good that you do that and if people get pissed they'll get over it the next day when they're sober. I've had to do stupid shit to my friends before to stop them from driving.
This thread is making me crave a cigarette.

This thread is off the chain....I told ya'll to leave her alone a page ago!
While I personally don't drink in my letters, a lot of my sisters do. I don't see a whole lot wrong with it, just try not to "act a fool" when you do. You're not just representing the organization, but hell, you're representing yourself first, and I don't think you'd want other people to see you sloppily drunk all of the time. I'm not the social police when I go to sorority events where there might be alcohol served. However, I will (and have) pulled sisters to the side when she's getting a little out of hand. That's not just showing concern for the org and the letters, but showing concern for your sister who might be putting herself in an awkward situation.

As far as the comments about my sister and her grammar...well sis, "your" is supposed to be "you're" and I think you know that. So just change it. It's not a big deal, but don't let these people think we don't have good editing skills Just jokes, people. Just jokes.
