It is true that many organizations share similar handsigns. Sometimes people are petty about it, too. However, I think most of us who share a sign with another group just view it as a commonality and understand that organizations did not try to "copy" each other, but rather, just didn't have access to photos, information, etc. at the time the handsigns were "implemented." They mean different things to different organizations. My handsign is used by several different groups, and I would venture to say that because all of these groups are "old" in the LGLO world, I don't think any of us copied the other. Now, if a NEW fraternity or sorority emerged in 2005 and used this sign...well, that would just be poor form because there are photos and information that can be found EVERYWHERE!!
I suppose people might get confused if they see pictures on the net, etc. with the same handsign. I guess a good approach is to refrain from assuming that someone actually is your brother/sister if you are not sure. This is probably a good idea for lots of reasons, actually

Yeah well...I knew that

This is not a war zone. If you have something negative to say, take it elsewhere.
*If you find pictures showing Greeks in a positive light, please feel free to post more than one pic of your organization.
NOTE:
Like many of you, I've run across some pictures of handsigns that resembled those of other organizations.
It has been said that there are only so many ways you can twist up a hand, so let's not get offended.

No. It's just that I don't necessarily like it when someone starts a thread asking for it not to turn into a war zone over how similar a hand sign might be and that's exactly what it finally becomes. It turns into a pissing match over who's smarter or more greek or whatever. I hoped that by quoting the original post that people would just let it drop. I should have known better though. As long as all of ya'll are enjoying yourselves, have at it.

^^The first one is a big time fail, lol. Love the brother in handsign #2 doing blue steel.

I've seen two variations on the first, the first using the thumbs, index and middle fingers to create the Delta and Chi, the other using the pinkies, middle and ring fingers in the same pattern.

Thumb, index, middle is my personal preference.
