What happened to this girl? Is she still planning on going to Ole Miss? I was a yankee who attended Ole Miss in the early 90's. Was basically blinded by the "culture" and "tradition" at Ole Miss. Granted I fell in love with and met some of the best people ever, but going to Ole Miss from Washington will be a CULTURE SHOCK.

It definitly will be a culture shock to move from the NW to anywhere in the South. I think that she should visit Mississippi and undersand what southern hospitality actually is.
Is she scared? Is she going through rush as Ole Miss?

Candaceena,
You might consider UNC-Chapel Hill. I think there's still a strong southern studies program, and when I went through rush in the 90s, junior transfers had a good shot at getting a bid from about half of the houses. Now, I was born and raised in SEC territory, so I can safely say that UNC won't be as southern as Ole Miss, but if you aren't a native southerner, it should do the job for you. Good luck!

Low C Sharp - Yes, went through rush. Was a legacy at one chapter and was recruited heavily (They sat me front center at skit round) only to have had a bad conversation with one member and was unceremoniously cut. I pledged another house, made GREAT friends, had some health issues and quit.

What path did you take and how did things end up? I just read this thread from the beginning and I am so intrigued!

It's been a month since she last logged in.
Ole Miss doesn't start rush until the end of the month, right?

In her first post she said she'd be starting at the new school in fall '08. So she wouldn't be at Ole Miss yet even if that is where she decides to go.

I don't think she's going through until next year, if she even ends up coming here. Recruitment starts September 26 and ends with Bid Day on September 30, 2007.

i am no longer at ole miss--i transferred this fall to another university--but i was an out-of-state southern studies major while i was there. addressing the question about rushing as a transfer, it is extremely hard. at ole miss, it is difficult for almost any non-freshman to go through rush; each house MAY take 1 upperclassman, if that.
going through freshman rush as an out of state kid is hard, but it is survivable. i ended up with a house i wanted in the end, but i was also cut by a lot of other houses i liked because i wasn't "known" enough in the house.

She's not the OP, just someone that was in the same situation.

Hi ladies! Just wanted to let you know that I am still alive and well
To update you all - I am still planning on Ole Miss, but have started to open up to the possibility of some other schools. I am still looking for a Southern university.
Any suggestions as to which schools may be a *tad* more open to girls that aren't from the South and are not freshmen?
