Through all of the Amanda drama, and DAMN if I wouldn't kick her ass , Candace and Jordan really seemed to show a little sisterhood to each other, and that was good!! I didn't like how Leslie and Leah made it seem odd that Jordan asked them to talk to Candace and Amanda. If she feels comfortable asking them for help, they should be pleased...I mean, they did pick her to join their sorority. Mara's 21st was HYSTERICAL Way to go for her!! And Jessica, well, she plays the victim a lot, but she really got the shit end of the deal in the Amanda/Jessica/Mara fiasco.

I just wanna see more of Dede than just sitting around! C'mon, MTV! She seems like the nicest one of the whole bunch, it's a shame they don't show her more often.

Okay... this is what I have to say about the SL girls...

Amanda- She is just a follower who was looking to do to someone else what people usually do to her. She wants to be the one in the power position for once and thats why she yelled at Jessica.

Jessica- I think that although Amanda shouldn't have yelled at Jessica, Jess also shouldn't have delivered the message for Mara. Jessica just seems to me like the kind of person who puts herself in the position to be stepped on over and over.

Jordan- While I don't love Jordan, I don't have a real specific problem with her either. I do think it was kind of hypocritical of her to tell Leah and Leslie to talk to Amanda and Candice though when just a few episodes ago she was mad for people telling on her for things.

Candace- Nada really. She drinks a lot but I think the ending of the last episode with her and Jordan showed that both really do care.

Mara- I think Mara has problems confronting people. If she had a problem with the guy that Amanda's was with then she should tell Amanda herself... not have Jessica do it for her. Having people deliver potentially bad messages never works (aka don't kill the messenger)

Dede I love her... even though we don't see her too much she seems like the kind of girl you'd want to be your friend

On a side note... I also really like Leslie and Leah. I think they're good role models for the pledges and they just seem more real than some of the others on the show.

Hasta

I can't help it, this show is so addicting! MTV probably should have rethought the title of the show, since there's been about an hour total worth of sorority-based issues out of the 9 episodes so far, but it really makes my Monday night to sit down at 10:30-11pm and forget about all my worries b/c I'm laughing so hard at these girls' so-called problems.
I do agree that Dede is definitely the coolest. I think MTV put her there b/c they thought she might be the partying I'm-not-21-but-I-can-still-drink type of person, and she's not, which is great. I used to think that Jessica was ok, but she can't have a normal conversation. She tries to sound so knowledgable when she talks. Like the last episode, when she was talking to Amanda about her throwing a hissy fit, Jessica just couldn't say "I think you and Mara need to talk". Instead, she was like " You should have a roundtable discussion, put all your ideas out...blah...blah...blah" She's so dramatic when she talks. But hey, it gives me something to watch on a Monday night, so rock on SAEPi girls!!!

A Completely Different Opinion Its Seems From The Majority

I am sure all the girls have great qualities and are truely good people in person. However these are my opinions from what MTV has portrayed so far (edititing and all ).

Jessica- Two words... Drama Queen. I still like her and think she has been , probably the most enthusiastic of the 6 pledges, however whenever she talks, especially when confronting people, she seems to be full of drama when its not really need. For example when she went to the spa and told the others Amanda and Candace were behaving like vultures towards her, I was like c'mon. Yeah, Amanda had no right to sanp at her like that but I dont think they were being THAT mean. Plus her lil dramatic speech when Amanda tried to apologize.I think she likes putting herself in drama too. I don't think most people would have relayed that message Mara told her to say to Amanda.

Dede- Ok, MTV, I know she is not of drinking age, but can you show her doing something else beside chauffeuring drunk sisters home??? She seems sweet too.

Mara- I like her too cuz she seems genuine, but for some reason I can't make up my mind about her lately. I like the fact that she tells it like it is, but sometimes it seems like she is coming off as two-faced from some things she has said and done in episodes. And she was 40% wrong in the whole blow up. If she wanted to relay information to Amanda, like someone said she should have done it herself. If she had of she would have found out that Amanda wasn't even talking to the guy Mara thought she was and kept her mouth shut.

Amanda- First off IMO, she had a right to get a little upset cuz Mara needed to stay out of her business or should have handled it another way herself. However, Amanda was just completely wrong for how she handled it and kind of blow it out of proportion with Jessica. I think I don't mind her that much, because in a way I think I can (like 20%) and many other girls can relate to her. I think there was also a time that I thought that I was in the background and I did let some people walk over me. The only difference is that I handled my situation way better then her. I agree with Mara that she does need to be out of Jordan's shadow and Candace is trying to do that and thats not necessarily bad. I just diagree when she said that it's not time for Amanda to be her own individual. I think it is but Amanda Just doesnt know how to go about it in the right manner.

Candace- Ha Ha, she's growing on me. Completely WRONG for kissing the guy Amanda like, But I am sure we have all done somethings we regret when we have been drunk. I think I like her because, I think a majority of us have a Candace in our house. Someone who does completely off the wall (sometimes inappropriate/irresponsible) things, but you know that you could count on her to be there when you need her. She's been there for Jordan (even when she was being a B!@$# to her) and Amanda. I can see her being a good sister in this sense. I am also proud that she knows that she has a problem when she drinks and isnt scared to admitt it.

Jordan- Jordan. Jordan, Jordan, Jordan. I can't say I dont like her.I like that she sticks up for herself when it comes down to to. I think she is a beautiful girl, BUT... I don't trust her and I hardly think she is being real. And I am not sure about this whole new leaf thing. I agree with the person who said she thought Leslie was right to be a little suspicious of Jordan when she came to them. After all this was the same person who got pissed when people did that to her. I see it more as being manipulative because she is upset that Amanda and Candace are spending so much time together and Amanda isnt her shadow. From the start she hasn't showed much of a "genuine" interest/respect/appreciation for things involving her sorority. And when she made the comment and rolled her eyes about her Big Sister. I did like that. I think she needed to say out of the whole Mara/Amanda/Jess thing, cuz it was none of her business, but yelling at Amanda was a) letting of her frustration that Amanda wasnt being her shadow and b) trying to be the center of attention. From what MTV is showing she's coming off as a very catty person.
Thumbs-up to Sigma on the Big/Lil events and more interaction with the new members. I adore Leslie and Leah.
About the whole Amanda/Candace drinking thing. I honestly think they drink as much as most students tend to. Jordan is one to talk. Lets remember that she was also one to leave a sister event at the house to go to a bar with the others in the late morning. Jordan says she has been worried about Candace for a month. IMO it hasnt been about the drinking, but about the fact that Candace "stole" her friend. And to me it proved it when they were talking about in the last two mins after that conversation happened. It's not like we have seen the two bombing away drink after drink. MTV has showed them at other places without the others, besides the bar. It just so happens that besides the house, the bar is where they ALL seem to frequent. To me for Jordan and Amanda is about low self esteem (Jordan) feeding off of lower self esteem (Amanda).
As far as the next epsiode.... its one thing to leave formal early if nothing is going on, but to leave when a presentation is being made it just out and out rude.

UCLAgirl, they wont show philanthropies a lot if at all, because there isnt much entertainment value in it.
Sorry so long ;D

Ok, I am humiliated to post here, but when Jordan and Candace were in the bathroom by the vanity talking, Jordan looked at Candace as they spoke. Candace looked (in the mirror) at herself.

I like Jordan.

I don't think so. I think Candace was looking in the mirror at Jordan.

But, then again, I guess it's all a matter of perception.

JAM-- if you are talking about the scene in one episode where Jordan is talking to Candace about the conversation they had in the bathroom when Jordan told Candace she looked like a boy and then Candance told her how she felt about it and then Jordan started to tell about her insecurities... i believe they were both actually looking in the mirror when they talked and there was one time after Jordan put her head on her hands she did look up at Candace. I don't think that had anything to do with vanity or one of them thinking highly of themselves though. I think it ws just how the scene was set, because I think Jordan was finishing her make up. If I am talkign about the same scene you are. Its the only one I can remember that is like that and I remember it because I admired Jordan for actually admitting she what she did. But as Natalie said, that might be my perception of it.

With all of this in mind, I must say that if they wanted their image to be better, then showing girls drinking all the time (underage too), doesn’t exactly raise the reputation of a sorority. They should balance it all out showing the social and the socially responsible actions of the sorority to really clear up the image that they are presenting to the PNMs out there like myself.

Below are three more reasons why they are doing the show:

“First, since we are relatively small in membership, the show is better able to focus in on the role that each member plays in the construction of our sisterhood. Second, we are a fairly new organization - four years old, to be exact - which allows MTV access to the process of becoming an established organization, and makes for an inherently interesting show. And finally, the creator of Sorority Life was Greek himself and wanted to portray Greek life in a more positive light than has been typical of mainstream media.”

Yet again as everyone can tell, each member is not being looked at. It seems as if only the marketable ones are being focused on in the show. My sister and I were wondering why the sorority wanted the pledges that were more “made up” to be seen as model pledges on the show as opposed to the more laid back ones that “regular girls” could relate to. The second reason makes sense, yet the third does not. I can only relay the message from many other PNMs that Greek life is not being seen in a positive light. I have talked to many girls that are currently in sororities so I know that this is not what sorority life is like at all, but many of my peers who don’t know anything about the Greek systems at their schools are now not going to go through Fall Recruitment because they feel that the stereotypes still ring true. It’s a sad thing to think that the intent of this show is actually being turned around. Many of my peers have said that they would be much more impressed by a sorority if they saw what they gave back to their local community.
This is what sucks the most about this whole deal. They picked what seems to be a non-stereotypical sorority, and then give most of the camera time to the 2 most stereotypical people in the project. I don't think it's that the sorority wanted them to be seen as "model pledges" - they were the ones who chose to move into the pledge house, which is where all the camera action is happening. I'm willing to bet that the girls who wanted to pledge Sigma before all the MTV craziness are far more representative of the sorority as a whole, but they probably wouldn't create as much drama even if they HAD lived in the pledge house.

As far as showing all the drinking, that also most definitely was not the sorority's choice - that was the choice of the director and MTV. I'm sure they are more upset than anyone that their philanthropy and the things that they do to help the Jewish community aren't being shown in favor of one more shot of Jordan doing her makeup.

UGH I can't stand that girl, she reminds me of some of my so called "sisters" who could give a crap about the chapter, all they cared about was partying and drugs.

I like Jessica the best, and Dede. I'm also growing fond of Amanda & Candice, I get the impression that out of all of them, at least the ones we're seeing on a constant basis, they're learning the most about sisterhood.

well

All I can say is I'm looking forward to the next episode. what in the WORLD were they thinking in leaving the ceremony like that? I can see Jordan and Candance doing that, but not the rest of them!

I just think that Amanda right now is lashing out, but it was good to see Jordan showing some emotion for her friend that she feels she has lost.

But here is some of my favs on the show as of right now
