OK, So I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for awhile now and Ive just about decided to do it.
...it is especially associated with the Celtic tribes.
These symbols are called triskele or triskelion.
The Triskele is used to symbolize the cycles of life with in the three fold, or three spheres of influnce in the material world.
The three spheres (Land, Sea and Sky) represents the three aspects of the material world that are contained in every object. Each aspect ever flowing outward and always returning to the point from which it started.
I've also heard it represents the union between the past the present and the future...
Am thinking in a brown-amber color on my lower back 2-3inchess wide/up-down.
Thoughts?

Amy, I think that's AWESOME!!! I think the design is simple and beautiful, and the meaning behind it is something that you will be able to appreciate for the rest of your life. Go for it!!!!
This reminds me...I'm really feeling the bug to get my THIRD. I really want to get something on my lower back, but I'm not sure of the design yet. I'm also scared because I'm a wuss, and I've heard that the lower back, right over the spine, is very painful. Eeek.

yes, I'd like to know about lower back and painfulness too--that's where I want mine.
How much do they cost? I truly have no idea.
And Valkyrie-- has even more meaning as my last name translated into English means the sea. I always thought if I got one it would have to incorporate the sea in some symbolic way because of my name and because I LOVE WATER and being in it, am a total fish that way-- i surf, fish, swim, anything to be in or on the water.

Don't laugh....I have a huge, purple fairy on my lower back. I got it my senior year in high school and I kinda regret it....but it is very pretty.

I'll just go ahead and post what I posted in the A-Phi forum.
---------------------------------------------------
I just walked in the door from getting my second tattoo!!! Picture the new member badge. (It is an ivy leaf with the letter A on the left side of the leaf and the letter Phi on the right side of the leaf.) Go to http://www.creighton.edu/AlphaPhi/symbols.html and scroll about half way down. The badge is pictured on the right had side and is silver. Okay, that's what I got, although the ivy leaf is maroon and the A - Phi letters are not colored (they are my skin color). It is prettttttty!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I got it on my foot, about mid-way between my pinky toe and my ankle. It is at a 45 degree angleand is the size of about a quarter, maybe a little bit bigger. I will have to take a picture and post it.
I am super excited about it!!!!!!!!! I called my big on the way to the parlor and she was giving me ideas, but I know she wasn't taking me seriously. I called after it was over with and she was all excited and congratulated me. I LOVE MY BIG!!!!! She is the best big in the whole wide world. I would never, ever wish for another!!!
It wasn't really a "spur of the moment" type of deal, per se. Today at work, around 4pm-ish, I was in this hyper mood and called my biological sisiter and told her that when I got out of work I wanted to go and get a tattoo. Fast-forward to tonight. We were going to go out to a club with a whole bunch of people I work with, but we ended up staying home b/c we were all tired. At 1:30am, my sister busted out with, "So let's go and get your tattoo." I got the pictures, and we took off. The rest is history!
Ohhhh, I am so excited you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats!!
I thought about getting a tattoo of my Fraternity Letters on my right shoulder. Hopefully, I'll get it this summer.

OMG valkyrie. I am not POSTIVELY CONVINCED that we are the same person.
I have been having some issues as of late, and for me, the way to work em out is to get a tattoo. I, too, was thinking of my lower back and it will be my THIRD.

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely love my tattoo. It represents something that means so much to me: my sorority. Let us know when you do decide to get it.

Are you serious?! One of my biological sister's friends got one when she was 16-ish. I couldn't have gotten one at that age. I got my first one when I was 18 and even I think that was a young age (for me).

Valkyrie, LibraSoul and SATX*APhi!
I am considering a third one, too! How about you all come out to Maryland, I'll put you up in my spare rooms, and we'll have a ladies day out. You know: shopping, lunch and the tattoo parlor!
