Denzel and Kimberly Elise were on Oprah on Friday promoting the movie. It really does look like a moral dilemma and an emotionally charged film. I don't know if I can go to the theatres on this one...from what I've seen of it...I'd be way too emotional to sit through it on the "big screen"..I'll wait until Blockbuster releases it in the summer.

I definately want to go see this one. It looks sooo good.
I'm a Law & Order addict and a lot of the cases deal with similar subjects, people who do something that's illegal to protect or save their family. The inevitable question is, if it was your child, wouldn't you do the same thing? The answer is always a tough one.
To my GC peeps, answer the inevitable question. If it was your child in that situation, would you do the same thing?

I'm not a parent, so I don't know how to really answer the question. But, I remember what Denzel says in the trailer. He says that he doesn't want to bury his kid, he'd rather for his kid to bury him.
That's a tough one all the way around. I hope and pray I'd never get into that situation...EVER!

As a parent, I say, with a resounding HELLLLLLL YESSSSS!!!!! I sometimes watch my son as he sleeps and realize that there is no greater gift than him. He is the reason that I work so hard. It is my mission to see that he has everything life has to offer. I would gladly give my freedom or my LIFE for him!!

I would!!
I am a big fan of Denzel, and I definately want to see his new movie. I do not have any children as of yet, but I know without a doubt that I would do the same thing for my child (at this point in my life, I would even contemplate doing this for my younger siblings)...I WISH (Ced's "Wish Fator") somebody would tell me that I have to sit there and watch my child die: HECK, NO!! It's NOT gong to happen if I can help it...
I pray that none of us have to go through this situation in real life ...

I heard on the radio that many Aaliyah fans were disappointed because she is not seen throughout the entire movie. The producer says that even though she is not seen throughout, the parts with Aaliyah in them are quality performances.
Supposedly, Aaliyah's character is in statue form in the beginning, but becomes awakened by some heavy, hard rock music.

I'm going to see it!
I can't wait to see QoftheD! I think it's gonna be great. I really love vampire movies, so i'm very excited.

I thought that Lestat bites her arm while she's in statue form and comes alive that way? I thought that's what i saw on the previews, but i could be wrong. Guess i'll find out when i see it
I think I'll also see Blade II. I thought the first one was pretty good. I'm just curious about all the f/x they'll have. But I may wait to see that one at the cheapy show

I heard that Aaliyah appears an hour into the movie, and the movie's only 90 minutes long! That's a long wait! I might have to wait until it's on DVD.
As for Blade II, I'm real excited about that! The first one was pretty tight.
Honeykiss1974>>I thought "Jeepers Creepers" was awful! That truck scared the hell out of me, though!

I read in the newspaper yesterday, that Aaliyah's brother had to come in and do some voice-overs, using a technique called "looping".

We had a sneak preview in our city and the reviews I heard were negative. Most said they would only go just to pay respect to Aaliyah. Overall they said the movie was horrible and she only acts in the last 15 or 20 minutes of the film.

I Saw It...
I just saw Queen of the Damned this weekend and I wasn't feeling it at all. The movie is about 90 minutes and Aaliyah wasn't even on the scene until WELL into the film. But, she did a great job when we finally did see her. I just wish she would have had a bigger role.
The rest of the movie was a big ole yawn. I could have made it a Blockbuster night-I'd wait until it comes out on DVD because it's expected to have more features on that.

Agreed. I went solely to see Aaliyah so I fell asleep during the first half of the movie. The movie itself pretty much sucked. Aaliyah's parts were good, but not worth going to see the entire movie for. The studio was all like, "no, we are not going to exploit her death to promote the film," but they acted like the movie was Aaliyah's and she had maybe 20 minutes total. I would see John Q. or Monster's Ball. Both were great to me.

I saw it last night and I have to concurr. That movie was DREADFUL. As someone who read and loved the books I was horrified. They basically threw away everything that was important to Anne Rice's book. Aaliyah was good, and the guy who played Lestat didn't suck TOO bad but as for the rest....
ugh!
I mean, they made it a LOVE story. UGH. They took away all of the sensuality, all of the suspense, all of the twisted beauty of the books. Lestat was no longer a canker in the heart of the rose, he was just a canker sore.
Ugh.

I Agree All Around!
Librasoul and LovelyIvy,
I agree with you two as well. I was thinking that Aaliyah had a much larger role in the film. I was bored to death.
I also agree with what LovelyIvy said about the book as compared to the film. It's been awhile since I've read Anne Rice, and I have read "Interview with the Vampire" and loved it. Saw the film version of it-loved that too. All of the great things about Rice's novels-the mix of horror and sensuality-you definitely didn't see that in this movie. I was more disappointed than anything. I feel that they relied to heavily on Aaliyah's role-and the fact that she has passed-to market this. I'm sure the studio knew that a lot of her fans would come in droves to see it, simply because it was her last performance. However, if they were both Rice and Aaliyah fans, you left with a double disappointment.
RIP Aaliyah, but this movie is a thumbs-down.
