I thought of that as well. Lilly would not do a black or gray background (and then, the kites wouldn't pop) and the pansies wouldn't pop against a yellow/gold background. Some stars would have been nice, though. It's pretty, it's just not as "Theta" as it could be.
Can't really see what is going on with ADPi's print. Maybe some purple for the violets (if there are any) or golden/tan/yellowish for lions would have broken up the monochromatic-ness?
Underwhelmed with DG's print. I agree, it doesn't really look like "Lilly". I was expecting a little more dimenson to the objects, like in the first batch of prints. It just looks so 2D. The anchors are so narrow and angular, they look like arrows. They look "stuck on" rather than "woven in". Not at all what I pictured they'd do for DG. I have such a pretty picture in my head, too bad I can't draw too well.
Love Chi Omega's. Well done to make it "Lilly" without butchering their true colors too badly. The pink and red blend. I was thinking it'd be JUST pink and yellow.
Alpha Phi's is pretty, but just doesn't look like Alpha Phi.

I actually love the Theta print, and am quite fond of the Alpha Phi print as well. The DG print looks kind of meh to me though.
I think it's interesting how different reactions to these prints are!

I must be blind, because the Chi Omega one is the only one in which I can actually see letters.

Ok, at first I didn't like any of the designs.....I do like the Alpha Phi, but the color bothers me.
Same with Theta, I like it but that blue....just bugs me, I know the sky for the kites to fly in but still....

There are stars in Theta's print, the little yellow things on the tails of the kites. I think they will all be stunning in person.

Lilly Pulitzer is a for-profit enterprise known for its NON-sorority branded prints, so I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised that it would create "sorority" prints that fit in with the rest of its portfolio. It created prints that it could still sell to non-sorority members, yet it knows that sorority women are so obsessed with the brand that they will purchase something with the LP name on it even if it is only faintly reminiscent of the sorority. It very smartly used this contest to make itself a household name in the sorority world (LP is not seen in many parts of the country otherwise). And it has no accountability to our GLOs.

and this ^^^ is why I heart you, thetaj. Thanks for turning my negative into a positive (you and Blondie93). I'll buy something (scarf? maybe...) when it comes out and I'll think of you two. And I'll be HAPPY.
eta: I went back and zoomed in on the prints. Would I be a perp if I bought the ADPi print? I love the colors and the design. Ditto for AlphaPhi's print. hmm...

LP does produce a lot of prints that don't fit into their traditional pink-and-green pastel palette: http://www.lillypulitzer.com/categor...e/pc/38/39.uts
Granted, that's a Fall collection, but elements in black, bordeaux, etc. wouldn't look wildly out of place in that family of prints. I wore my new (solid purple) Lilly this week, and everyone was really surprised when I told them where I got it. I guess LP really wanted to push the old-school Lilly look with as many of these as possible.

All of the sorority prints (new and old) have letters on them, so technically, it'd be perping. However, had it not been printed with letters, I can see why someone could want to wear the Alpha Phi print, since essentially, it's just a floral print (ivy, forget-me-nots, and lilies of the valley). If someone had a letterless Alpha Phi print, no one would question their GLO affiliation or lack thereof. Same with Chi Omega, since it has flowers and owls, the latter of which are very popular right now. But the ADPi and Theta prints have combinations of elements that would be random or incoherent to someone who doesn't know the symbolism (and even without the letters, might prompt speculations about perping). Why are pansies and black kites together? Why are there lions on an LP print? If I saw a letterless Theta print, you bet I'd assume the wearer was a Theta.

Is the Chi O one really as pink in person as it looks on the FB page? I mean it looks more pink than red.
I love the Alpha Phi one - as a print. As a representation of Alpha Phi though, I don't know. As far as the Theta one, the less said, the better - both the color change (they could have just used a white background as opposed to a color that has nothing to do with the sorority) and the print in general.
ASA is already all over Lily (the palm tree ) so we don't need no stinkin' contest.

Yes and then we'll hold hands, sit around the campfire, toast marshmallows, sing Kumbaya... and then try to poke one another's eyes out with the pointy sticks
Panhell <3 to you, 33!

OMG!!! THOSE ARE OUR SUPPLEMENTARY COLORS!!! I am sounding the perp alert right now...the nerve of some people.
In all seriousness, the palm tree is my favorite of our symbols, because it's fairly unique and because of the meaning we attach to it. I wish we would incorporate it a lot more than we do.
