It is interesting to read how other chapters do recruitment. On my campus we are the only NPC sorority so we have informal recruitment. We always try to get more girls and get them interested in us. I guess our chapter and other chapters are different. Something that I notice about our sorority on our campus is that we always want to be the biggest and best. So that everywhere you turn around you see Phi Sigma Sigma. And what I notice from other sororities, which are all cultural, they don't care how many girls they have. Some sororities have 3 to 12 girls while we have 30+. I love being the biggest because then we're everywhere.
I guess it just depends on the situation you're in.
I've never been through formal recruitment so I don't really have an idea what that is about. But I don't know that interested get divided into all sororities. Am I correct or am I way off?

Recruitment ideas!! HELP PLEASE

In the past two years, our numbers have steadily declined, there were almost 30 girls when I joined, and now we will start the school year off with only 10, with 2 graduating very soon.

At our school there are only two social sororities that go through formal recruitment in the fall. Us and Alpha Sigma Alpha. ASA, is a very large sorority with over 50 members. We feel that we are utilizing the Vision program to the fullest extent but we are still not obtaining new members.

Fall recruitment is going to be terrible for us, since at the most we will only have 7 girls in the room representing us. I am the president of panhellenic council, so I won't be there, and neither will two of our other sisters who will serve as recruitment counselors.

I feel that during recruitment we don't fairly represent ourselves. I honestly love having a small sorority because I know everyone at such a personal level. But I would at least like to have double what we have now.

If our chapter continues at this rate we will be in severe danger of losing all of our members. Which scares the crap out of me!!

Our party ideas are always good ideas that are executed excellently by our MRC, but they aren't working for us at our school.

I have read that some chapters do skits...but about what, and how exactly??

Please help!!

Iota Alpha luv!!
Chachie luv!!

Skits at parties

I helped out my MRC last semester with some Vision-ish skits. It goes a little something like this:

Phi Sig TV

We made a huge cardboard TV screen, which ended up looking like a cut out square with foil antennas. NEway it was like 8 or 9 feet wide. and we decorated the Channel knobs and stuff so it looked cute.

The whole idea was that someone was watching TV and changing the channels. Each time they changed the channel, we would moch a popular tv show and make the subject for that particular episode have something to do with vision. I'll try and see if our old MRC has the sripts and maybe I can post them.

So for example the first channel had jerry springer on it and it was "sorrotity girls gone fighting" and this chapter of women were talking crap about each other and fighting (us acting like a made up group like Pi Alpha Chi Phi) We tried to ad lib the skit around the types of stereotypical situations that people think about us. At some point, jerry came up and talked about inclusiveness and the importance of a judicial board to sort out problems.

A other channel was Lifetime and it was a story about a women going to college and becoming a phi sig. We tried to make it fun and cheesy with our lousy acting. through the story we showed that she got her dream job through Phi Sig networking, when she got married all her sisters came to the weeding, and her baby grew up to be a phi sig. Its kinda like that song we have.

I think we had 3 more but the only other one I can remember is this one infomercial about getting good grades and achiving academic excellence through studying with fellow phi sigs and being involved at school.

Basically, in some way each of the skits touched on one or more of the core values and vision sections.

I hope this helps. If you want those scripts let me know

Hey Lauren,

Please, send those scripts Iota Gammas way (maybe pass them on to June). We may not do formal recruitment but the skit sounds like something fun and different that we can do.

it's always good to have a theme.

sigma kappa did it and it was impressive
they did NSYNC's POP and rewrote the lyrics and did a dance
however, it doesn't really go over well unless you got some girls that can dance
it's a good thing that they had some black girls in their sorority who did the rountine
if you have cheerleaders or dance team members, it would go pretty good

well, you relate it to Greek life and Phi Sig

Like the song went with Sigma Kappa
You could change the chorus of N'Sync's POP to say something like

"Don't you ever wonder why
You should pass upon Greek Life
It takes you on a ride
Feel it when your body starts to rock
This feeling you can't stop
And this sorority's all you got
Phi Sig Sig rocks!!!"

Or something cheesy like that.

Then, relate a skit about why Phi Sig should be their choice

You could probably change the lyrics to any pop music song
Now, I'm just doing this off the top of my head
Here's "Genie In A Bottle"

"If you want to be with me
There's no price to pay
I'm in Phi Sigma Sigma
You'd better rush the right way
If you want to be with me
We can make your wish come true
Just sign Phi Sig on your bid card
It's the best choice for you."

But if you're going to do a pop theme
I would definitely go with dancing

What's your theme?
If you're decorating a room, I would go for a beach theme
We're doing a cafe-style theme. . .from the popular TV show
Another group is doing a summer camp theme
Another group is doing red carpet(kind of blah, blah)
Email me because I'm chock full of ideas

You could also make a paddle wall - have all the sisters bring in their paddles and just use double-sided mounting tape to put them up. Also, do you guys make banners for greek week or homecoming? You could put those up. Both things are good conversation starters.

With the pictures, you could do theme boards - get different colored pieces of big posterboard and use one for formals, one for socials, one for philanthropy, etc... takes up more room and is more organized that way.

Good luck!

If your theme is "pop"... put some pop stars on the wall it's SOO easy to find pics of them.. also put each sister's face on a star like a "phi Sig walk of fame" put Cds out everywhere... see if you can find some music note confetti or those garlands, you know the ones with the thin wire that have different things hanging from them.. like stars or hearts, see of you can find some with music notes.
