My first thought was actually Draco Malfoy. Like it will come out that his mother wasn't really Narcissa Black.
But then I re-thought it, and decided this can't be the case.
Ron or Neville are the only other people who come to mind. I am also re-reading CoS, and looking into minor characters. The Justin Fithch-Fitchley(we KNOW he is half)? Colin Creevy (we know his father is a milkman, but his mother?)? or someone else, perhaps?
PS- The door took me awhile, more than anything else on the site. And I didn't cheat

Both. The "Life's a banquet" line comes from Patrick Dennis' book Auntie Mame. Yes, that Patrick Dennis, as in Mame's nephew.
That book was adopted into a stage play by Jerome Lawrence ("Inherit the Wind") and Robert Lee. Betty Comden and Adolph Green (the two writers for "Singing in the Rain," among other shows and movies) adopted the stageplay into a screenplay for the 1958 movie starring Rosiland Russell.
Jerry Herman ("Hello Dolly!") adopted the stageplay into a musical that starred Angela Lansbury as Mame and Bea Arthur as Vera Charles. (Bea Arthur won a Tony for the role.) When the movie was made, it was another instance of fearing that the actress who played the role on stage wouldn't have box office draw (a la Julie Andrews in "My Fair Lady"), so instead of Angela Lansbury, the lead role went to Lucille Ball, who was a great comic actress but couldn't sing (a la Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady," except they at least had someone dub Hepburn's voice).
Thus ends the lesson and the hi-jack for today.

sounds like I missed a lot within the last week. oh well. I finished reading book 4 on the airplane... and yes, I'M STILL CONFUSED about the whole Riddle family drama that I mentioned a few pages up. Oh well. Nevermind. Maybe if I re-read the first chapter again, it will make sense. I am still trying to figure out the identities of the 3 bodies found at the Riddle house. Because Tom Jr/Voldy was sent to an orphange, his wizard mother left/died prior to the killings... leaving Tom Sr, and his two grandparents. So teenage Tom (I remember reading that the gardener saw a teenage boy enter the house the night everyone died) goes in and kills, via A.V curse, his dad and grandparents... right????
I just remember the section where all the townspeople were talking about how the Riddle family was a bunch of snobs, and they mentioned the mother and Tom Jr. So I assumed that those were the three people killed.
And no, I am not a Harry/Luna shipper, but I am still curious what kind of role Luna will play in future books because she kind of just appeared out of no where in book 5 (next on my book list...). But I have heard all kinds of 'ship possibilities. Even Luna and Ron... yeah... wtf?

I don't think Ron or Neville. We know the Weasly's are all pure blood. (Draco reminds us that ever time he says he can't believe the Weasly's are pure blood) and We know Neville is pure blood.
I was also thinking Justing or Colin. But Seamus is also a "half blood". He says in PS/SS that his dad's a muggle and his mum's a witch. What about Dean? Do we know if he's pure blood?
Then there is Hagrid. We know he's half giant, half witch. He's not exactly half muggle, but he's not a "pure blood either".
A more crazy idea would be Dudley. What if he is a wizard. Yes it seems a little far fetched, because he never got a letter to go to Hogwarts, but maybe, just maybe, his powers aren't that strong. We know he had a reaction to the dementor. Even though people can't see them, doesn't Dudley see something?
I know, I know, it's odd, but a possibility?

I can't remember where I read this. If it was fanfic, I appologize because I can't remember. But I think Dean is a half. His dad was a wizard but was killed (for a reason later revealed) and his mom is a muggle. I think Dean also has a picture of a Muggle Soccer team on the wall next to a Quidditch team pic in the dorm. (Check book 4, I think Ron makes fun of him for it...)

I re-read it, and I'm 99% sure it's Voldemort's father and grandparents.

Now wouldn't that throw everyone for a tailspin. After all, Dudley has been pretty quiet. I doubt that he is a wizard though. But it makes for some interesting speculation.

See that was what I was thinking too, especially with the effects the Dementors had on him. I think that would be a great twist to the story.

To add to the Dudley specualtion...maybe he's a Squib? A non-magical, magical person.
I have ready some interesting editorials on mugglenet and some have specualted that Petunia is a Squib, perhaps that was the reason she's jealous of Lily?
Because didn't Arabella Figg see the dementor too? She just couldn't stop it because she's a squib.

Now this brings up a question. Ms. Figg is the lady that took care of Harry when the Dursleys went on vacation right? I haven't re-read OotP lately so maybe this was all explained there and I can't remember. Was is just a coincidence that Harry's babysitter was related to the magical world and the Dursley's never knew about it or was someone making sure Harry was staying with someone "magical" while younger. I remember Dumbledore mentioning at the end of GoF to gather "the old crew" and it included Figg.
I don't know what point I was trying to make. But maybe that Harry wasn't completely out of touch with the magical world when he was younger. Makes me think that Dumbledore instructed Petunia on the side to leave Harry with Figg. But then again... I'm probably just typing out of my @$$ right now.

Definitely NOT a coincidence about Ms Figg. I am sure Dumbledore put her there . Something tells me there is more to Petunia than has been let on. I always got the feeling she was JEALOUS of Lily. "Once she got that letter" I always wondered if Petunia wasn't suppose to get a letter as well and somehow it got lost. A little latent magical ability coming out eventually?

In book 5, I beleive it said that Dudley couldn't SEE the dememntors, but he could FEEL them. And we know that squibs can see them. When Harry was in his hearing with the wizengamot (sp?) they talk about how muggles can't see them.
I don't think Dudley is a squib, because don't they usually come from ALL magic families? Like how Neville is described as almost being a squib in book 2. So, I don't think I would describe someone with muggle parents as a squib, I would say that he's just a muggle.
haha, I really think I could talk about this stuff all day. i wish my friend's understood my obsession!

Dudley didn't see them, he just remebers going cold, dark, and believing he was never going to be happy again. (good think my HP books are the only books I didn't pack in preparation for moving )
I COMPLETELY forgot about the Weazelys being pure blood. Duh!
As for Neville, I knew his parents were wizards, and his gran is, but we never heard about his grandfather. Although that would make him the "3/4 blood prince" instead of half blood, so he is out.
A great place to find out about character's info is the HP Lexicon, much easier to search than mugglenet.
