Sorry... still in the gloomy grey Michigan weather... everyone looks like pale ale right now. Although some Barbies at our school are usually the Middle Eastern girls who bleach their hair.
ps... that's not a racial remark on Middle Eastern girls.

Probably because she is their chapter sweetheart...or dating/engaged to a brother...

The girl is making a point. Granted, we are all presumably much more mature and enlightened than anyone who would think that women are only worth their Barbie status. But we live in a world where there are billions of people who do judge women just like that, and it's a bit disapointing to see proof that such judgement calls exist so close to home. I mean everyone knew this already, but still, who wants to have proof of it shoved in their face?
And yeah, the thread is presumably about "Barbie" looking women, who represent a particular blonde stereotype- but ummmm most of these pictures are being judged for general attractiveness. Combine this with the fact that apparently women who aren't white (brunettes are ok, but no black women?) don't qualify for posting, and it can grate on a woman's nerves a bit. I'm not trying to spoil your fun, and I definitely understand where both the guys and aurora_borealis is coming from.
But come on now, if you're going to try to say that this isn't about eye candy, then stop making blatent attractiveness judgement calls. Otherwise, perhaps a couple of you should consider that, while you may not find particular woman up to par, doesn't really mean that others don't either- personally there were about 25 girls in the previous pics that actually did look like blonde Barbies but weren't "qualifiers", and another 25 who were definitely hot but deemed unacceptable for this Barbie specific thread. So I guess I'm just saying, you should expect a certain amount of flack when what it seems like what you're doing is trying to put a pc label on generally holding a sorority stereotype beauty pageant. I think that's what aurora was saying also. With that being said, I'm going to go drool over eye candy in the fraternity boy A&F thread, where no one is trying to hide that it's all about the hot booty.
Corina
ps- Rudey, I don't understand your personal definition of what a Barbie girl is, but I've read all your posts and I'm still trying to figure it out. Do you just pick girls at random from each pic, or is there a common quality to your preferences? Not being rude, I'm honestly curious...
pps- sorry to add to the mini-drama in your thread, I just thought it was shitty to call someone an "annoying feminist" just because she's making a valid point, or say that just because she's greek she shouldn't post on something that should probably be in chit chat anyway.

Trying to diffuse the situation...
Of course these threads are ridiculous, as are most of the threads on GC. Guys like looking at hot girls, girls like looking at hot guys. Sorry if there is disagreement but that is just the way it is! Unless people are being degrading, rude, disrespectful, etc. just let it go! (Up until now I haven't seen any of this but apparently some have been deleted) I'm sure the guys realize that there is more to the female gender than blonde hair and boobs but this isn't exactly the thread to discuss those characteristics. I am off to the A&F model look-alike thread and I can guarantee you that I will not be discussing the personality/intelligence/sensitivity of the guys I think are hot!
Edited to add: This is not directed at any one person so please don't let it spark more controversy!

Jesus,
Lets try to have as little fun as possible? is that the plan?
I guess we should get rid of the "What do you look like" thread, and the "Crush" thread, or the Photo Album thread, so we don't hurt people's feelings.
Well, actually, maybe we should just delete all threads that pertain to fashion/dress/weight loss, etc or anything that has anything to do with opinion, because that's all this thread is, people's OPINIONS.
Yes, Rudey and i may have differing OPINION on what a Barbie is. We are entitled to our own thoughts. He's not going through saying that the girls that aren't barbies don't deserve to be assocatied with Greek Life, or that they don't deserve to live and should starve themselves into anorexia. He's merely saying which girls meet "HIS" criteria as a Barbie.
The outrage would be justified if we had a "DogCatcher" thread and surfed the net to find pictures of the ugliest Greek Men and women out there than laughed at them.
Besides, if a few comments posted on Greekchat are enough to influence someone's self-image or body-image, they have bigger problems than barbie envy.

Here’s my opinion of the ‘Sorority Chicks that Look like Barbie’ and ‘Fraternity Dudes that Look like A&F Models’ threads: I think they’re harmless.
We have so many threads out there that talk about how Greeks have great GPAs, great social skills, we do wonderful things for the community, we’re leaders, etc. Hey, guess what??? We’re good looking, too. We never talk about that because it’s not “pc”. Why shouldn’t we? Is it so wrong to admit that every single person in this world judges people based on their looks? You’d be lying if you say you didn’t. Personality, intelligence, money (joking), and other such qualities are extremely important but, if you met someone who you were not physically attracted to, in fact they repulsed you, would their awesome personality make up for it? No.
Anyway, I think us girls are having a lot of fun in the A&F thread. But, I can understand why some of the women are getting upset about the Barbie thread (Corina made an excellent point). The girls have only said how hot the guys are in the pictures posted while the guys have been critiquing the women in the pictures. I’m not ragging on the GC guys because I don’t think they meant any harm in what they were doing. I think that we all basically witnessed the difference in the way men and women view the opposite sex. Girls usually don’t sit around staring at pictures of guys and pointing out their flaws (we reserve that for criticizing other women…meeeeeeeeowww!). Many of the guys I know will look a picture of a girl and say, “Yeah, she’s cute but her smile is a little crooked…..” Men are more visual creatures than women by nature.
After my long tangent, I’d say that while I don’t think that the thread is the most enlightening thing on GC, I don’t think it’s harmful either. I know that some GCers are worried about what PNMs might think of Greeks if they were to see these threads. Honestly, there’s a lot worse on GC than those two threads. Take a gander at the Dating & Relationships forum. We’ve had some VERY taboo topics in that forum.
They're posting pictures of beautiful women. The thread just got a little carried away by some of the comments that have since been deleted. If those men and women featured in the pictures were to come onto this site, I think many would be flattered. Especially the guys in the A&F thread. They've had a bunch of women drooling over them!!!!
Boys, have fun posting your hot sorority girl pics and us girls will have some fun posting our hot fraternity boy pics.

Corina, I totally agree with you. Let's call a spade a spade.

I think it's pretty silly that the word "feminist" is still being used as a slur. Although I don't often post here, I read the forums religiously, and I would wager that the majority of you all are feminists. If you believe that women should be allowed to vote, hold government offices, make the same amount of money doing the same jobs as men, receive the same level of healthcare as men do, and generally be treated as equal to men in the eyes of society and the law, then guess what? You're a feminist! I see lots of gutsy, empowered Greek women posting here. We're feminists, too. The mere act of establishing a Greek-letter fraternity for women when there were none was a pro-woman -- a FEMINIST -- action.
Sorry to hijack, but I felt it needed to be said.

It's all about ME!!
For anyone who is offended by this thread: it's my fault. I was getting really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really annoyed with the 8 zillion conference threads since none of them contained my sorority and people seemed to like pointing that out. So my dear friend James decided to do a satire. If you didn't get that point, sorry.
And just as a side note, the old pic of our Beta Sigma chapter is the most Barbie pic I have ever seen. And as another side note, what happened to P.J.? She was like Barbie's cool stoner friend.

At Barbie's family tree you can read all about Barbie's friends and see the names and their appearance dates, including PJ.
Another interesting find from the same website:
Quote:
Barbie® doll is a good ol’ "American Girl" in 1965. Her hairdo is the popular Pageboy cut with bangs, available in several hair colors. Her fashions are inspired by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and offer a chic and sophisticated look. Some of the ensembles from this year are Saturday Matinee, Tickle Pink, Fraternity Dance, and Country Club Dance.
