I have a few friends who are members of DPhiE at UF. When I visited the UF campus, they took me on a tour of their house. I met a lot of girls and many of their sisters are not Jewish. I think that DPhiE has really been pushing in recent years to get rid of the image of being the 'Jewish sorority'. I know of many girls that went to my high school who are Catholic and are UF DPhiE's. So, it's up to you whether you feel comfortable there or not. Good luck with the rest of rush!

I use to work at Bloomingdale's and we had this HUGE Lilly Pulitzer section. I'm pretty sure that there are boutiques out there but I think that her clothes are mainly in high end department stores (Bloomie's, Saks, Nordstroms, etc.).

about DPhiE

I'm also going back to DPhiE for round 3. Each girl that has rushed me has been jewish. How do I know this? B/c it has somehow come up in the conversation! Coincidentally enough, each girl was from Miami...and we discovered that we had friends in common. The girls knew all of my (jewish) friends from high school, b/c they attended the same youth group. I have nothing against the religion, in fact, as I said, I have several jewish friends...but I agree with UF56...i don't know how comfortable I'd feel if the house was majority ANYTHING, and I was in the minority.

A side note...a girl from my high school is in DPhiE, and she's catholic.

I'm a DPhiE from up North, although I'm originally from Florida and know some of the DPhiE's at UF, plus lots of my friends at UF are in sororities.

From what I understand, DPhiE is a very well respected sorority at UF.. in the past few years, I believe they have been number one, or close to it in terms of GPA and they are very active on campus.

It is true that they, along with AEPhi are known as the "Jewish sororities" at UF, although you can find members of other religions represented. As a side note, one of the fraternities they mix with often, Phi Tau, is generally known as a Jewish fraternity. However, about 5 guys from my high school joined and they are very much Christian and have had no problems fitting in.

I do know that the Delta Kappa chapter at UF does have women that are not Jewish. It's all about going where you feel comfortable, and if you feel comfortable at DPhiE, then they will welcome you with open arms, regardless of what religion you are.

Another side note, my chapter was predominately Jewish until my pledge class came in, so it can vary year by year as well.

Good luck with the rest of rush!

UF56:
Its not about religion or what houses you mix with. Its about the sisterhood and the sorority experience in general. If these are girls who you can see yourself calling sister then that is what matters. I know you know this. Don't get caught up on the small stuff. Clear your head and look forward to the great things ahead.
Lots of luck

Well I am on break. I just came from DPhiE and really liked the video and all of the girls I have spoken with. I was worried about not fitting and being excluded from things because of my religion but our Pi Chi's helped clear up the misinformation that we had and let us know that it's a mix of a ton of people and that makes me happy. I was worried about not fitting in during certain things/ceremonies and what not because I am not of the Jewish faith!!!

But I will update later tonight!!

UF56,
I am so happy you talked to your Pi Chis about your concerns. I think that you should keep in mind that Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist women routinely join NPC orgs that were founded on "Christian Principles" and find homes and sisterhoods within these organizations. As for DPhiE, they seem to be a really strong house at UF and if you are feeling comfortable during rush that comfort will only increase if you do end up there and become friends and sisters with the actives and other new members.

At any rate, I think you are being really thoughtful about all of this, I am continually impressed with you UF women! I concur with the suggestion that you guys all take a photo together for those of us who have been hanging on your every post!

Good luck in your next round!

Just wanted to drop you a note, I'm so glad that you are liking Tri-Delt, it would be cool to have another 3D on GC. You remind me of myself a few years ago, eager with anticipation and excitement. Enjoy rush and your eventual involvement in whatever sorority you decide to join, it has been some of my best years so far (you know, because I'm so old, hehehe).

Much luck.

I just finished up Round Three and find out in the morning at 10 where we will be asked back to. It will probably take me a bit to post b/c for some reason our group (curlygirly's & mine) likes to take FOREVER!!!!! But we all understand it's a big decision to make. As for this evening here are the updates:

DPhiE: Their video was based on Sex & the City. It was very cute and parts made me tear up. Didn't connect as much with this girl as the other two that I have previously spoke with but she was cool. Just for some background info DPhiE does have the highest GPA and the current student body president is a DPhiE. Also the sisters had never gotten to see the video and since I was there for the first party I got to see their true reactions which was kind of cool too.

Phi Mu: Spoke with a girl who knew some of the same people as I do. Very nice girl. There video was cute and was based on Friends. The got to play in the water fountain in front of the administrative building (Criser Hall) and now from watching it before I graduate I am going to go play in the water fountain too. The girls seem to have a very nice and geniuine sisterhood. I also like the fact that for iniation they go to Wesleyan where they were founded and do the iniation there. I think it is soooo wonderful that they are in tune with their roots. This is really really retarded but I love the fact that they were founded in the SOUTH!!! Because I am come from a Southern family and love Southern ways!!! And also there were lots of Lilly dresses there!!

Sigma Kappa: It was decorated very nicely with balloons. They too had a Sex & the City themed video. First I spoke with a very nice girl. We talked a lot about road trips and purses (I love Louis') she worked at the Louis counter in Macys this summer in NYC. I thought it was very touching when all of the sisters circled around the PNM's and sang "That's what friends are for" song. I then spoke with another girl who I didnt really click with as well as the first girl. I did not get to speak to her very long because the party ended when I was switched to her.

DDD: All I can say is I really and truly love this house and I basically let them know. The girl I talked to from the first round came up and remembered me and said hi. This meant a lot to especially since she hasnt seen me since monday and only got to talk to me for 20 minutes then. I really feel like this is home for me. The girls and I seem to have soooo much in common. I can honestly say that if I get my invites back tomorrow and they are not there that I probably will bawl. But I am trying to make myself not like any group more than another and it is not working very well. The video here was sooo touching I cried when we watched it. Another cool thing was that my Pi Chis were the Pi Chis for this house when they walked out they were all bawling too. I mean the sisters had watched this 6 times and they were still crying too. So this is basically were I stand now. I am not going out tonight and am staying at home to think long and hard about how I feel about these groups. If I feel that I will not be able to give my absolute best 101% in any of these houses then I am going to withdraw and go DZ. I have met a ton of outstanding women who are older like me that have already withdrawn to go DZ. And all of these girls would make great and awesome sisters. I am happy to say that through this experience that I have been able to make friends. Curlygirly and I are planning on exchanging numbers and going to some of the functions that St. Augustine (UF Catholic Church) offer. I am very excited about this. So with whatever happens I know that I will be happy whether it be with DDD or the other chapters above or by getting to make my own chapter with a whole bunch of AWESOME people. So with that I am going to put on my thinking cap and think some things out. I appreciate all the support the GC Community has given to me. And even if I dont get to be a true greek I am happy to say that I am part of a greek family and I do have sisters and brothers at a happy little place called GreekChat.

Hey UF, is tomorrow pref, or are there more parties before that? I wish you the best of luck. I really hope that Tri Delta invites you back because I know that you really feel at home there. No matter what happens though, you are right. The people at GC are very supportive and we will be there for you! I also respect your decision about DZ, not just because I am a DZ, but because I think it takes a strong person to say what they want and go for it and if that ends up being what you feel is best in your heart, I say go ahead and don't look back!

So good luck tomorrow and whatever comes your way, you will do great, I know! You have come across as a very responsible and good-spirited young lady and I am certain that good things are coming your way!

I am so happy you made it this far and are loving the houses you visited. You have a difficult decision to make, but SATX APhi is right, just follow your heart. I know it can be difficult if it's set on one thing and it doesn't go as planned, but you've kept such an open mind during this Rush, I'm sure you'll be able to do the same tomorrow. I know how nerve wracking it is sitting there waiting for the list of invites for Prefs. Just take a deep breath and remember, any way you turn, you'll have a house FULL of sisters waiting for you or waiting for you to make, just around the corner!!! Best of luck in making your difficult decisions. We're all behind you 100%.
