The premise of the show is a little silly - and the whole only 5 pledges making it through is very reality TV.
I, too, hope that the chapters these girls are from aren't judged by their actions. But their actions are worrying. Hannah says "those pledges have no idea what they're in for though. They think the hardest part is over, but it's only just begun " at the end of the episode (then cue creepy giggle from the president) before it cuts to a preview of a whole lotta hazing. I don't know if it's the producers dictating that the girls make the pledges jump through these hoops for the ratings, or the girls' ideas, but either way it makes me uncomfortable. Le sigh.

None of this would be their ideas. I'm sure the producers (probably not American OR members of GLOs) thought all of this stuff would be great TV. Remember, their goal is not to start an actual sorority system in England it's to make good TV, and making 18 year old beauties throw up on TV, who could ask for more?
If they wanted to start an actual sorority system, they'd have asked 3 or 4 sororities to come onto a campus and they'd have filmed a documentary. And us Greek geeks would watch it with fascination while NOBODY else would.
But the thing is, if this show is a big hit, it wouldn't surprise me if a REAL sorority would be asked to come onto a campus due to increased interest. Stranger things have happened!

Oy, it was pretty bad. Everything is contrived, from the cutesy obnoxious bows that all of the "sorority girls" are wearing, to the rush interview questions and comments, to the acronyms - "SNSG" = "So Not Sigma Gamma". Not to mention that the Rebecca Black-looking chick is very annoying.
It's all fake! How are there "Sigma Gamma" standards when it's just a television show? After this, what?

I just can't believe all the NPC groups didn't put out a preemptive "don't even think about it" to all of their collegiate members. I was in school when the MTV thing was getting off the ground, and we got all kinds of memos from HQ.

I was very surprised to see the ADPi sequence. Surely that couldn't have been headquarters approved?

Probably not, but if you were making this show in England, what would you care?

Just because I'm mildly interested in this train wreck, may I ask where you were able to google find the whole first episode online in the US? Apparently my google skills aren't the greatest.

True Life
Yeah, It is a bit exaggerated but I do really like the things the American girls are saying. At least their not acting like mean girls. It's obviously a television show though.

sorry didn't read all posts so I may be repeating, but on the intro piece on YouTube a couple of the sorority houses shown are at UCLA--the Theta house, the AEPhi house and the Kappa that is shown is Kappa Delta, I believe, although the KKG house also has Kappa in similar script but theirs is bluish, and KD's is bronzish. Also, UCLA ADPi does have a red door! But I can't say for sure if the red door with chanting ADPi's is UCLA...it very well may not be. Some of the frat guys are in L.A. for sure ( can tell by the view). Maybe U of Southern Cal frat boys? Pretty good looking, which is more like USC!

I was surprised at that. You can clearly see the words "Epsilon Phi". To the left is a tree or shrub, hiding the word "Alpha", but you can see the stem of the letter h. I'm guessing nationals is less than thrilled. On the up side, none of the five Americans is an AEPhi...
I saw a short clip where one of the pledges is sent packing because she was "weighed and measured" and found inadequate. Reminds me of the "circling the fat" rumors I've heard over the years ... although, even at the worst, the "circling the fat" stories were more along the lines of "here's where you need to trim down - do a bunch of sit-ups or lift weights or take an aerobics class", and not "you're too fat, hand over your pledge pin, and don't let the door hit you in your fat ass on your way out".
