Right. What people fail to realize is that recruitment threads come back to bite PNMs because SOMEONE FROM THEIR SCHOOL was reading it. Alot of the time, it's not a registered GCer, but just an active who just happened to be reading. Folks forget that you don't have to register or post to read stuff.

The shameless plug thing makes me have a little distrust for all recruitment threads, even the ones we hold as basically true.
Didn't we talk about this angle once before, (not that we can't talk about it again)? But I kind of remember talking about real time threads vs. retro threads, and some of us had a distinct preference for the honestly that retro threads lost in how the OP presented the results.
If you know you're an XYZ you might be a whole lot less likely to discuss how awkward you felt there second round.
Not that it's a big deal or a reason not to write them.

I have a legitimate question. For us non NPCers, what are some of the ways you can tell a story is fake?

One of the easiest ways to tell if a story is fake is if the school is unidentifiable. The more chapters there are at a school, the fewer possibilities there are. One of the GC sleuths should recognize it given other clues (location, Greek culture, campus-specific language, time of year). I think any story with more than 8-10 chapters should be able to be recognized by the sleuths.
Another big red flag is if there is something that seems off about the recruitment process itself. For example, eaglesbaby or one of her alter egos wrote the story about Drexel, and how they were at the "loser" chapter and how her whole rush group just crowded in the back and ate their food instead of talking to the actives. I'd have a hard time believing a chapter would have an unstructured "just mingle and meet members as you please" when every other chapter during formal recruitment is doing organized "pick up" and rotation of PNMs.

*Stuff that's happening in recruitment directly violates NPC rules. Example: PNMs talk about having alchoholic beverages at recruitment parties. PNMs are bringing their purses into parties, etc.
*The number of chapters. The fake thread writer said that her school had 14 NPCs and like 4 locals. There is no school with that many chapters and 4 locals.
*Things happen that are just unlikely to happen in real life. Like the whole group of PNMs sitting in the back of a formal recruitment party ignoring the sorority members and just eating food. Come on. In formal recruitment, that's just not going to happen.

Oh, and also the whole Mary Sue thing of "I was a very shy girl in high school, and most of my shy friends went to CaCa Community College, but I decided to spread my wings and go to Batshit U. Once I pledged the sorority who I thought I failed at impressing, I blossomed and am now the Governor of Alaska!" I hate to do this to you, but find some fanfic sites and read a story or two. The faux rush stories are written pretty much the same way.
There ARE some schools where rush is more laid back and might seem fake to other people who aren't used to that style of rush. For example, I didn't necessarily think the Drexel thread was fake - I just thought the writer was thoroughly unpleasant.

I did notice that in a couple of them. I actually RP online, so I am well aware of what Mary Sue is. lol.

I just realized something. do you think a coed fraternity would take place in sorority formal recruitment? I'm actually curious to see what people would think the answer would be.

Absolutely NOT - I thought that co-ed groups (and I mean purely social co-ed groups) usually did bids at the same time as the regular fraternities, since it's a more laid back sort of thing. Does anyone know for sure?

I thought Rush stories were the most important and vital for most second pre-Sorority/Fraternity Applications? Is this guy a Joker?
