**SPOLIER****

I"m sad that they left out many of the subplots. and they didn't even explain the "half blood prince" meaning. My roommate was like "what the HELL is going on?". Seriously, if you haven't read the books its very hard to follow.
AND WAHT THE HELL WAS WITH THE BURROW THING!?!? SERIOSULY? I COULD HTINK OF A MILLION THINGS TO PUT IN THAT PART INSTEAD.

*ends rant*...
Okay. I'm good.

I have not seen the 6th one yet, but I don't have a lot of hope for it. The more something gets hyped, the worse the movies is in my personal and not so humble opinion.
Ever since the first one -- maybe the second -- plot points that are very important in the book have been left out of the movies. The first book is 309 pages long, Book 2 a little longer. Book 4 is 735 pages long, and it's not the longest of the books. It just gets impossible to put everything in.

That said, sometimes I'm baffled why some things that could get easily mentioned are left out.

And yes . . . spoiler alerts are a must in this thread.

This has been a bad summer for movies but you wouldn't know from the money made in the box office.

Transformers 2 was probably the worst out of all the big movies this summer and probably made the most money.

Okay. I'm good.
I totally agree! They threw in so much stuff that was not even mentioned in the book and left TONS of amazing parts out! I was actually the most disappointed in this movie than I have been for any of the others before it!

But...there's still the 2-part 7th book movies to look forward to! I'm optimistic they will be better!

I fell asleep during the midnight showing. I saw most of it though.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

I'm with Jenny. Why in the hell did they burn down The Burrow? Overall, I liked it better than the 5th one...

I was asleep by the time Dumbledore died, but I'm sad to hear that there was no big fight scene. I wasn't supposed to see it until Sunday afternoon with some friends anyway so I'll catch the end this weekend.

Since book 6 was my least favorite book in the series, the movie is now my least favorite movie of the series.

What I found annoying, was what others have said, them leaving out important stuff that, well is kind of important for book 7.

I hope since Warner Brothers is splitting book 7 (and we all know they are doing it for money since there are no more books), they BETTER follow that book pretty damn closely (IMPO).

I wasn't too disappointed with the movie (especially since it's been a while since I read the book last, and forgot a lot of the book that I'm sure may change my opinion of the movie once I *do* reread it )...but my mom, who hasn't read the books, hasn't really seen the movies, and I dragged with me to go see it on Wednesday, said that she "got into" the movie - take it for what you will

Back to an earlier question on the thread, if I ranked the movies in order of preference, my list would go: 1, 4, 3, 5, 6, 2 (I couldn't stand the Chamber of Secrets when I read it, and don't care to watch the movie whenever ABC Family does its "Harry Potter weekend" showings).

I actually liked this one much better than 5. I particularly liked many of the choices that the director made. They did leave out quite a bit, but as I have read the books, I was able to fill in the blanks where necessary (I also had to do it for the friend that I saw it with.)

Book 7 was my least favorite; well, at least the silly way that it ended. But I am excited to see how the film series concludes.

I liked what I saw (except the burrow/forest scene), & agree that it was definitely better than 5.

As a movie, this was pretty good. I like 5 better than this one - only after watching it a second time.

However, this was my first time watching the movie after reading the actual book, and it was somewhat of a letdown. Too much of the plot that I read just a month ago (2nd time) was fresh in my mind but not on the screen. SPOILER ALERT BELOW

Generally speaking, they stuck with too much of the beginning of the book and cut out far too much of the end. I wanted the battle and funeral! I felt so cheated when I got neither. Plus, there was really just an allusion to Harry's relationship with Ginny. Disappointing for me.

The best thing to come out of this movie for me was recognizing that I obviously need to read books 1 - 5 because I must be missing some important stuff.
Specifically,

The movie was a set up for Deathly Hallows. If you look at it that way, it makes sense. I liked the relationship stuff (the scene with Hermione and Harry was really sweet), but the ending SUCKED!! I wanted my money back after that. I'm ready for Deathly Hallows.

I was dissappointed. I thought the actors were lackluster-except for the actress that plays Lovegood and Ron's girlfriend. Maybe they are just getting tired? I also can't believe they didn't show the scar until the very end of the movie. I also wish they didn't play the soundtrack louder to get you into the movie. It was there, but not very umphy (like they do with all the Superman films).

There are some obvious details that were left out for whatever reason, and there were some odd things thrown in. I'm not quite sure I understand why the director made the decisions he made, but I'm hoping it'll make sense when Deathly Hallows comes out.

I think my biggest frustration from this movie stems from my not understanding who the target audience was. Generally, when a movie is based on a book, it's clear when the director is targeting mostly those who have read the book or, alternatively, mostly those who have not. With HP & the HBP, I can't tell who was targeted because the movie misses the mark with both camps.

For instance, for those who have read the books, whenever there were gaps in the movie's details, we can use what we read to fill in those gaps. Some of the details were too important to leave out, though, leaving those who haven't read the book wondering WTF is going on.

I liked it - I definitely have complaints, but since I've never seen a book-based movie that was as good as the book, I always expect to be let down on some level. I'm definitely looking forward to Deathly Hallows...
