I wanted to go see the Dixie Chicks in Memphis, but they cancelled and now the closest that they will play is Nashville. That sucks.

The fact that she spoke out against Bush and "apologized" for America's actions while in Europe was a pretty big deal. I think if she would have done it in the US it would have been slightly less criticized. Texans also didn't appreciate the fact that she said she was embarassed to be from Texas because George Bush is from there.

I don't think you understand how it is in, Texas. It is a very loyal state. When some says that they are embarassed to live in Texas or embarassed that someone is from Texas......its going to make a stir, especially when they all still live there. Natalie Maines' father is also one of the most famous musicians in the State....which added to it. He practically disowned her.....and the state still practically boycotts everything they do.

If they're free to express their displeasure with the President, then why can't other people express their displeasure with the Dixie Chicks?
I personally don't understand why so many people think they're so courageous or whatever; if I had a dime for every person who has spoken out against the President, I'd be rich. It's not like they're going against the stream or anything.

Point: She only said she was embarassed that Bush was from Texas, not that she was embarassed to be from Texas. She did not apologize for America's actions. In fact, the Chicks next sentence was that they still supported the troops in Iraq/Afghanistan.
Also, LLoyd Maines produced an album for Charlie Robison in 2004 that included vocals by his daughter, Natalie. He also contributed sound mixing to the documentary "Shut Up & Sing". I don't think that falls under the heading of "practically disowning her." In fact, he has publicly stated his love, respect, and support of his daughter.
And, some Texans agreed with her.
