Hi all, soo sorry to keep y'all waiting for the name, but like PenguinTrax said the local is called Sigma Psi Eta. I'm happy lol. I'm a little scared of what to come, I'm just hoping its nothing I can't handle! lol.

Thank you all for your support. The only reason why was so cautious about this group was because it is a local group, but I found out that Sigma Psi has a national board and are trying their hardest to start expanding---so many one day y'all will have a Sigma Psi Eta chapter at your school! lol.

Hey Congratulations on Your Affiliation!!

Just Remember, Every GLO started out wth Only One Chapter!!!!

While I started out as a Local with the idea of affiliation with a National, I have always wondered if there Could have a BX National!l

Finding the People that You fit with is better than a name!

Growing is part of life. GO for it!

Thanks to everyone for all your support and everything!!

I'm so nervous, scared, excited for what is to come. It also helps that my new member class has around 30 girls in it!! (some from FR and some from COB).

Edited to fix the # of NMs.

So I guess I said (too prematurely) that my mom was happy about the sorority. Because, guess what? (to no surprise) she's not. UGh...I dont know what to do. I talked to one of the NM Educators and she said just to wait until today b/c that is when they are having an informative meeting for parents. But if my mom still isn't impressed after tonight, i dont know what i'm going to do. We get big sisters soon, and I dont want to get my big sister and then have to drop cause of family problems. Ya know? I know i'm old enough to make my own decisions (that is what all my pledge sisters were telling me) but I have to live with my mom, and she's already telling me that if I do continue, i'll have a set curfew and won't be able to stay out past that. UGH!!!!!! Well see what happens tonight. Wish me luck y'all! Cause if this doesn't work tonight, i guess i'm not going greek.

I know every parent is different, but this is something I just. don't. get.

Good luck, I hope your mom sees what a great thing this is for you.

maybe she will be more flexible when she meets your chapter. will there be alumnae at the information to talk about the "supervision" they provide? it might help her to know that the chapter has some sort of an advisor who is very involved. the other thing is, if you really want to be a member...and mom gives you a curfew of 10, then perhaps the chapter will be willing to be flexible with you. if they schedule an event that is supposed to end after that, then you just leave when you have to.

Hi all, well unfortunately my situation with my mom didn't improve and she did give me a curfew---9:00pm. So i decided that I would drop, it wasn't fair to my fellow pledge sisters. So to kinda further clarify what happened and my feelings towards the situation, I did write an email/letter to the sisters and here it is:

Hi everyone,
By now y'all probably know that I dropped. I just wanted to let y'all know that I would have LOVED to continue, I wasn't ready to give it up, but it wasn't honestly fair to my other associates.

What happened was that on Sunday we had an associate meeting that ended up running very long. My mom was VERY upset (pretty much livid) that I came home at around 11:30pm and so she set a curfew of 9:00pm. She told me I could still continue going through the associate program, but that if I went past the curfew that she was pull me out without hesitation. I thought about continuing, and did come to this conclusion:

If we were to have a task or project where participation was very necessary, and I had to leave before 9, it would not be fair to my fellow associates.

It would kill me to know that if I did that, I would be letting down not only the associates but the whole sorority. So I decided that before that could happen, I would just gracefully leave. It still hurts to know that I won't be going through this with the girls who I just adore! But its for the best.

I want to thank everyone for their kindness, and I want to apologize to the sisters that I never really got to know. I wish i could have had the opportunity to get to know each of you, but *crosses fingers* if all goes well (and if my mom lightens up) I'll try again in the spring. Always know that Sigma Psi holds a special place in my heart, I adore this organization and the girls.

I wish all my associates the best as they continue on this journey, and I wish all the sisters all the best!! Take care all.

Luv
*epchick*

Agreed. That just sucks. But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Would your mom have agreed on maybe you paying some sort of rent per month? As like an alternative to a curfew? (If you can't afford it, then nevermind.) I guess I'm just trying to figure her logic for wanting you home at 9 pm.

Aww, honey I'm sorry that you're having to drop.

I REALLY hope this does not sound at all rude or inappropriate.... But WHY would you have to have a 9:00 curfew when you are in college? I didn't even have a curfew that early when I was in high school.

I honestly think you should keep trying to talk to your mom about this. I know I don't know the whole story, but it honestly just does not sound reasonable.
