i was one of the ones that said it and i certainly mean it. and i've been praying for myself because had i not, i probably would've said (typed) some really ugly things to you. and i guaran-damn-tee you'll see withing the next 4 years the same things that i will see -- bush don't care a thing about either one of us. we'll just wait to see if you'll be "strong" enough to admit it.

Another soror proposed a great idea in regards to the Electoral College. She no longer posts on GC but this is her idea and I like it as an alternative. Example: North Carolina has 15 electoral votes, but Bush won 53% of NC and Kerry won 47% of the votes. Instead of the entire 15 Electoral votes going to Bush, he would instead get 53% of the 15 electoral votes and Kerry would get 47%.


I believe that the South has a stronghold on the Republican votes. Between now and 2008, the Democrats need to build better relations and a better candidate to compete against whoever the Republicans have as Presidential candidate.

Since this is the Aftermath thread (or one of them anyway, lol), how/what are you doing? What is your chapter doing?

It will probably take huge public outcry to actually get them to change anything. It would be nice for the 527's to pour money into this type of initiative. What is the "argument" for keeping it at this point I wonder?

The only way the Demos will ever have a fighting chance in the South is to go Democratic Leadership Council, which I know makes people go crazy. But the fact is that a Northeasterner/West Coaster isn't going to fly in flyover America.

All over the news the pundits have been talking about the fact that the Democratic party needs to go back to basics and find out where they are missing the boat with the American people. This country is very red as demonstrated by the map below......




and instead of going further left..i.e. identifying with the likes of Michael Moore...I think the Democratic Party needs to try to reach out to what the obvious majority of America feels as important.

So in this Election Aftermath thread..what if anything do you think the Democratic Party needs to do differently to reach this "red" America?? I'll start with this:

1. Distance itself from Bill Clinton. Although lots of people "love" this man..many do not like him. And further, Arkansas and Flordia..where he campaigned for Kerry..were carried by Bush.

They are calling for a re-examination of the relationship between blacks and the Democratic Party.

I believe it was either Oklahoma or Colorado that had a bill similiar to this on their ballot yesterday. I don't think it passed, but I'm not sure.

Personally, I don't think the Electoral College is a bad thing. Truthfully, this system is still very much needed today. Some of the founders concerns are still valid. If we switched from the Electoral College system to popular vote, less populous states would be rendered voiceless. However, I do think we can tweak it a bit. I'm not in favor of the all or nothing system. Some states do the percentage thing. I think that's a more accurate way to do it. A little more complicated, but more representative.
