I have a good friend that lives in Havelock, Nc, which is a base town. It is really a small town, walmart isn't even in the town. Everyone has to drive to the next town to go to Walmart.
So maybe Rudey isn't as all knowing

Would you really want the military to leave your area? The $ the military contributes to the local economy more than outweighs the price of milk at the commissary. Jurisdictions get very upset when the bases close. Not just the active-duty get reassigned. Civilian jobs are also relocated.

NO I don't want the military to leave the area. It may not be known to you but I spent 6 years on Active duty and am still in the WA Guard. To say I want the military to leave this are would be dumb since I am one of the majority here who get to use the resources I have. I still think the commissary and PX take away from mom and pop stores just like walmart though. I know I am not going to go to a local store and buy something for more money when I can go on post. I am not the only one that thinks this way. This is exactly the same as me going to Walmart and saving money. Yes, you can argue that there are only certain people allowed to go to a military facility and buy goods there. Lets look at Ft Lewis and the 20,000 Soldiers stationed here. Then you have to include their spouses, children and other dependants. Oh and this is before you include McChord AFB, the Guard and Reserves and all of their personel. YOu are seriously going to try and tell me that this amount of people didn't take away from mom and pop stores in the area?

I love the turn this thread has taken. Maybe Walmart is good for something after all.

I was just wondering too how we went from discussing I Heart my GLO buttons to Walmart Financial Politics.
So, the question remains: Are you allowed to wear ugly/inappropriate lettered items, while shopping at retail giants who are putting mom & pop stores out of business?

My nearest Wal-Mart is currently a good 40-45 minutes away. However, I think they are building a new one maybe 20 minutes away.
