I've never had a mint julep, but your post just made me crave a mojito.... Probably not a good sign considering that it is all of 8:30 am right now.

BTW- I heart this thread!

This thread inspired me so much that I actually did go out for wings and drinks last night with my neighbors!

Oh, no. Peanuts are bad. That's a lot of chocolate you're missing by the room that's being taken up by the peanuts.....

Then I'll buy you plain M&Ms and you can buy me Peanut M&Ms. It's all good!

Has anyone else seen the jumbo M&Ms? More chocolate! and bigger candies in cool colors. My neighborhood WalMart had them the other day but I didn't purchase any. Yet.

I've seen an ad for them but have not seen them in the store.

I have the sudden urge to go out and buy a bottle of Hpnotiq, then just kick back and chill.

Unfortunately it's 5:45 am here and I have an interview with the head coach of the tennis team in 3 hours, so it's a no go.

Busy day in general: the interview, 3 classes, a quiz in Russian I'm going to have to cram study for, another quiz of which subject I'm not going to divulge, which should make said subject easy to ID on these boards. , and the newspaper article on the tennis team to write that I'm waiting to see if I can get a two hour extension on the deadline for so I can do a good job of it. (Damn the morning and early afternoon classes!)

Oh and then later tonight, an essay to write for one of my English classes for tomorrow.

Man, am I ever looking forward to Friday and the end of this hectic, hectic week.

[hijack]

Do you crush the mint leaves, or merely "bruise" them? My friend and I are having a bit of a "discussion" about that. But she also buys that mint syrup, so what does she know?

Simple, classic, and although I'm a Kentucky girl through and through, simply the most vile drink ever created

Mint Julep

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice (must be crushed!)
Bourbon
Silver Julep Cups

Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Bourbon. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

WAY too much work..........I'd be done with my first margarita by the time you had the sugar and water mixed.
