Famous Greeks... a different kinda thread

I know of only a few famous honorary Tekes, but the one that sticks in my mind the most is adult film star "Ron Jeremy." If you do not believe me watch Ron Jeremy's movie "Porn Star: the documentry of Ron Jeremy." Its a true documentry of Ron Jeremy's life and fifteen minutes of the movie is about the San Diego State Teke chapter throwing a party at their house just after initiating him. Even though he isn't the most active, its just bad-ass to have him as a brother.

Not attacking, but badass just because he's in the porn industry? I mean have you seen the amount of hair on his back? It's like a sweater. I don't know, I guess I wouldn't be too thrilled about counting a porn star/producer in among my members, but maybe that is because I am a female, simply because of the "ick" factor and because it's not in line with our ideals and ritual.

He's not officially recognized by TKE HQ, the chapter did this as a rogue act.

I feel sorry for the brain-dead poster who questioned Reagan's
fraternity involvement.
If anyone at Ohio State will recall, he invited ALL Greek presidents
to have lunch with him at the Teke house.
Countless TKE chapters welcomed him on their campus and he often used Tekes as crowd control volunteers. Throughout his
life, the 30s on, he was an enthusiastic Greek as was his sibling
John Neil Reagan, both presidents of TKE at Eureka (IL) College.
Walgreen, 98, a U Mich TKE, has held TKE national office and has
seemingly forever been a benefactor and STILL IS!
Lloyd Balfour, Sigma Chi, left them a chunk of bucks in gratitude
for buying his jewelry...and Milton Caniff, with his "Steve Canyon"
strip...and David Letterman....and countless others...have given
a lot to the greeks. Even the Tekes own Iowa State grad...who
has a little outfit...little only in name...called 'Hooters."
And the beloved Barney Fife, a very, very gifted actor, is an avid
Phi Sigma Kappa'' And so on and so on....
Lordy...you-all can easily add to this embraceable list.
And to the poster who questioned the headliners' involvement,
get your head out of your you-know-what....
I have given of my time and ?talents? to TKE for over forty years,
but nobody knows me....think I'll go eat worms. Uncle E

While the list are long and luminous, those that have are out shined by those who havent. Gene Bicknell, The Pizza King, ask Unky E about him!?

It still goes back to the 80-20 or in most cases the 90-10! That is the percentages of Members who keep up with Chapters and Greek Organizations.

We of the poor few are the ones who give the most, not the I am So and So, with a lot of money

LXA has many Famous People as do all of us, but, My question is, how many who are big time really give back?

UMMM I would be that brain-dead poster and you odn't have to be an ass about it. I asked what Ronald Reagan did for 1- because that was the point of this thread, and 2- sorry for being so IGNORANT that I didn't keep up with Ronald Reagan's Greek activity. Wow much apologies.

Bob Dole and Sam Donaldson were both members on an alumni board for Kappa Sigma and, from what I've heard, keep tabs on how things are going in the fraternity. Dole spoke at the University of Arizona house when he was campaigning. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has also assisted the fraternity at times from what I understand.

There's an actor who spoke at Conclave when I went in 2001, but I can't remember his name...seems he was at least marginally famous though, maybe someone can help me out.

Some of the other famous members (Rick Barry for one) did bit parts in rush videos that the fraternity put out.

I'm probably missing some, but those are the ones that come to mind.

ETA: Nice job on the mention of Redford as a Kappa Sig...I often forget that he's a brother.

When he was running for Vice President in 1976, he visited the University of Kentucky campus and made a "secret" stop by the Kappa Sigma house. No press, no advanced notice. He actually also made a comment to Sam Donaldson on an appearance on one of his shows. Towards the end of the show Donaldson said "You must come back to visit sometime," and Dole replied "Of course, Kappa Sigs gotta stick together."

Whatever people think of Dole, he is genuinely proud to be a Kappa Sig, which I appreciate.

yea, I've seen quite a few pics and stories on the net with Pikes such as Rick Dees (along with his son, a Gamma Eta [USC] Pike) and Tim McGraw showing their support for PiKA...

but on a side note....but not really...

yea, this is kinda random, cuz I don't think anyone who has posted here has been an Omega, or an NPHC greek...but it's still on topic...and kinda funny/cool

I know Shaq openly and continually supports Omega Psi Phi. There are a number of recent photos I've seen of him repping his letters on a baseball cap...

recently on MTV's Cribs, they did Shaq's house, and he was going through his lil "Hall of Fame" -- up on the wall he had a framed Omega football jersey and said proudly, "Yea, I'm a Q-Dogg!! WOOF!"

haha, I thought it was cool cuz well, he's a LAKER and years after college, he still proudly reps his org., as he should....

how funny how he went on to win back-to-back-to-back championships with the team who sports the same colors as his GLO....

and of couse, its not only about shout-outs...my friend will be pledging Omega soon back east, and his grandfather is an Omega...I've talked to them in the past and he's always talkin about how much moral, as well as financial, support Shaq still offers...

k..thats enough...u just had to see Shaq's facial expression when he did his "Yea, I'm a Q-Dogg!! WOOF!" thing...and he put his arms up...like i guess forming an upside down Omega, I've seen them do this b4...i think thats what it's supposed to signify
