All Shades of Pink
For anyone out there who likes to crochet, I have a wonderful organization that could use your help! I know this is the Knitter's thread, but this is a great philanthropy. All Shades of Pink is a non-profit organization of crocheters who make "comfort blankets" for breast cancer patients at my hospital in Prince George's County, MD. These blankets are given to women when they come in for their surgeries, and all of the patients have been absolutely thrilled with these blankets. These women are amazing. I'm going to start making blankets for them when I am between new nieces and nephews. If you'd like to help, go to their website, www.allshadesofpink.org.

Okay so this thread is 2.5+ years old, but I just started loom knitting last month and I love doing it! It's great for me - I'm not crafty and I've failed in the past learning to knit/crochet with needles. Loom knitting rocks!! I have the 10" and the 28" AKB looms and so far I've made 2 scarves and I'm just getting started on an afghan. I'm on ravelry (paulam43054).

On an unrelated note, a school in my hometown just won $25k for knitting items for Special Olympics!

The looms I have are Authentic Knitting Board http://www.knittingboard.com/
No classes - the boards come with a DVD that shows you the basic stitch and it's really easy to pick up (if you can weave string every other peg and flip the board, you can knit). It's double knitting which means it doesn't have a front/back - both sides are finished. I did my first scarf in a few hours!
Here's a video - it's from HSN but if you watch minute 4 it gives a good overview of just how easy Loom Knitting is!

Bump because quilting thread and I don't quilt, but do knit.
I learned by watching YouTube videos. Still a beginner, but have done scarves, hats, socks, and one single lonely slipper so far. It makes my train rides go so much faster.

Yay for a knitting "bump." I'm trying to make more time for knitting. I love it but rarely set aside the time. Here's to a fresh start!
It sounds like you are well on your way. I like to do baby items because they are small, but I get to practice techniques.

I do most of my knitting while on the way to work - it's nice not having to drive!

I've done very little knitting recently. We added a kitten to our family a year and a half ago, and I'm worried about knitting around him, for two reasons - it's very bad if a cat swallows yarn (read: trip to the vet), and I don't want him destroying my yarn So I knit when I'm at the doctor's office.
Any ideas for knitting around cats?
