When I went to Catholic school I always polished my Mary Janes. I hope you couldn't see up my skirt.

I think it's that, and the way they eat their rice.

i don't know which is more disturbing---the plight of this poor child or the ignorance of some posters.

money has NOTHING to do with love or quality of life.

and this "polish" bull***t is making me nauseous. the word itself is absurd and just stupid. i keep getting pictures in my head of 19th century southern belles with books on their heads to improve their posture and corsets that were so tight that they passed out. what a life they had

"polish" has to do with proper manners and etiquette, not money.

this american couple has no rights to this child. this whole thing is a travesty and should never have happened.

i'm surprised none of their lawyers have yelled racism yet. by all means they should because that's what it boils down to.

That's all well and fine, but a wise woman should know how to earn her own money, "just in case".

Anyhow, back to the original topic. I think Little Anna Mae He should go back to her parents. I just worry that, since she is now already 5 years old, and hasn't seen her biological parents that much in those 5 years, that it might be very psychologically disruptive / distressing to pull her out of the Baker residence? I'm thinking back to that story where 2 girls were accidentally switched at birth and then they found out at something like age 16? The courts decided to leave the situation "as is", because it would have been too psychologically disruptive to swap them back in with their biological parents. I believe that both parties worked to forge positive relationships with their blood kin, though.

HOWEVER, those biological parents ALSO have a right to raise their child, no matter what their financial situation is! "Polish" is not a legitimate legal reason to deprive a child of her family. Nor, I would argue, is it a moral one.

These parents did not understand the ramifications of what they were getting into. The foster parents and the foster agency took advantage of their inexperience and lack of legal counsel. This is an injustice, plain and simple.
I agree.

What the heck does being "polished" have to do with being good parents anyway?

I just don't know. Maybe it wasn't a good enough Catholic school because we had classes with boys and our uniforms weren't mandatory? And God knows we aren't learning about sex here at Marquette, where Abstinence is king yet Walgreens always runs out of condoms.

And KR, I'm only like 4% Polished.
