I saw it this afternoon with my roomie. We both agree that Johnny Depp is the coolest pirate ever. Although for some strange reason, he reminded both of us of Rayanne from "My So-Called Life."

There were definitely several scenes re-enacted that mimicked the Disney Pirates of the Carribean ride (the final battle scene with bombs exploding in the water, the scene with the prisoners trying to get the keys from the dog, the scenes in that one town with all the women and liquor). This, combined with the preview for the Disney Haunted Mansion movie, which quite obviously steals scenes from the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, makes me wonder if Disney is planning on making backstory in the form of movies for many of their theme park rides that lack them.

I loved this movie! Johnny Depp... he definitely lived up to my expectations in both his hotness and his wonderful acting. The only bad thing was that both my friend and I kept saying to each other, "Wow he's so sexy" instead of paying attention to the movie!

We want to take the kids but I heard it's PG13. Is that true? Would you take your elementary-aged kid? And why would Disney base a movie on a ride and then make it PG13?

Carnation, yes, it is pg13. It's the first Disney movie to have this rating. I'll let you know how kid appropriate it is when I come bcak from seeing it.

Saw it yesterday, and I know all the youngsters will say that Orlando Bloom is a hottie, but I could NOT take my eyes off Johnny Depp! Fantastic film, even if the sword fight scenes did go on a bit long.

This movie was PHENOMENAL!!! Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffery Rush, and Keira Knightly all gave absolutely amazing performances! There was just the right spice of comedy from Crazy Captain Jack!

To be honest, I don't think this movie could have been made - in the true spirit of the film - as anything less that a PG13 rating. The swordfights, explosions, and sci-fi special effects were absolutely essential to the plot. The violence wasn't gory or overdone. Should children see it? I supose that depends on the parents and the maturity level of the child. I don't think it's any worse that the video games kids today play...but IMO, I probably wouldn't take kids under 10.

YES! The professional reviews have been CRAPPY but I really liked it. Granted, it's not like it's so amazing you forget you're watching a movie; it's not life changing...it's just a good, fun, exciting movie.

and yes, Johnny Dep was reminiscient of Rayanne from My So Called Life! (But I think the smudgy eye-liner that made HER look scary was making HIM look preeeetty hott so..... )

I think Keira Knightley is so positively gorgeous that it's downright unfair. Does that help you at all?
