Cheerleading is seen as a traditionally female pursuit though? And crossover of guys into traditionally female things is a whole lot less socially/societally acceptable than crossover of women doing "male" things?

I don't know a whole heckuva a lot about the history of cheerleading, but i'm pretty sure it's not a traditionally female pursuit. I'm sure that along with the implementation of sports teams in colleges, pep squads or yell leader squads were implemented and consisted of male members.
Trent Lott, one of our senators, was a Cheerleader in the 50's at Ole Miss.
A&M has had nothing but male yell leaders, but then again, our traditions are based on our history as an all-male military school.
Now, i'm gonna guess that's its an accurate statement to say that cheerleading today is worlds different than cheerleading in the 1890's. Today's cheerleading may be more geared towards women, but i believe the roots of the sport involved males.
