I Hear You My Greek Sister....

I hear you and agree with you wholeheartedly my Greek Sister! However, I'm not talking about Sorors/Greeks who have the money, but choose to spend it elsewhere (Believe me, I know plenty of Sorors and Greeks like that -- wear Prada, Gucci, Kate Spade and etc., but never have their dues). That comment pertains to individuals that truly have 'financial' problems and coming up with any type of money is just difficult. No matter how much you budget and etc., there's no money left over for luxuries (Being Greek is a luxury and not a necessity). I used to think just like that -- she can't come up with $80 to be General? -- $300 for dues? But for some people, the decision could be spend $50 on grocery for me and my family or save for my AKA dues? Saving $50 a month for a year to take my children on that wanted Disney trip or saving the $600 for AKA dues.

And yes, that's something that should be said at Rush! -- the emphasis of the cost to maintain membership! However, no matter how much we emphasize it, I doubt if that will deter individuals from applying. You see after all these years they still do....The cost to be greek has quadrupled since I crossed and this has yet to discourage individuals from submitting. Young ladies will raise that money by any means necessary! And I know when I was at Rush, I didn't think about where I'm going to get my dues money for the graduate chapter! I just knew I wanted to be an AKA...and that once I graduated I was going to 'make' money.

Lastly, no matter how hard we try to 'perfect' the system, there are going to be individuals that just will not live up to their 'pledge'. And like I said before, people don't wear their motives, intentions, future plans, future financial status, budgetting abilities and etc. on their sleeves; therefore, there will always be people who will slip through the cracks!
