Bump for 2015..because Pinapple did such a great job of explaining what is the "FUN" of UT Recruitment! Good luck to this year's PNM's and their moms that have to live through it!

In answer to some of the remarks upthread about why quota seems small compared to the number of girls going through--it's because the sorority houses cannot accommodate too many more girls than they already have, and there is nowhere to expand the houses. Nobody wants the giant pledge classes that Bama and Auburn have, so they keep quota around 75. At some point they will have to think about extension, but that will be difficult for any new sorority, given the price of real estate in the Austin area and the total absence of available land to build a new house anyway.

Panhellenic raised house totals this year which is good. Almost all chapters added girls this Spring which was great... However it is not usually the case, so PNMs should not count on dropping out of recruitment in hopes of getting the chapter of their dreams in the Spring.
All chapters with the exception of 2 are at or near house totals now.

Actually, quota has nothing to do with the size of the houses at Texas. UT uses RFM, so quota is based on the number of women who sign their bid card on Pref night. If PNMs kept an open mind and wanted to be Greek at UT (aka - did not drop out when they were not invited back to their favorites) quota would be higher.

You can't "keep" quota at a certain number. It is the amount of women going through pref divided by the number of sororities ( over simplified for expediency). If you were referring to total, it can be set at a certain number, but considering UT guarantees a bid to women who have gotten to pref and maximized their options, quota additions come into play and total is somewhat of a moot point.

I mentioned total being raised because almost all of the chapters took "some" girls in the spring. Apparently there are rumors going around that UT now has Spring recruitment and I wanted to make it clear that this is the exception for last year and not the rule (only because house total was raised). PNMs SHOULD NOT count on Spring additions as a reason to drop out of formal Falll recruitment if they don't get their dream chapter.

A chapter that wanted to take just one or two upperclassmen could still do so if they wanted to.

When on earth would they do that? Asking them to make that decision too early is impinging on membership selection, not to mention they don't know from day to day who's coming back and who's not. Plus, word would get around and it would be like another version of the girls who are trying to get out of pledging the more expensive sororities.

With RFM this could end up in them getting seriously spanked. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Not to mention the other chapters would probably scream bloody murder at being designated "the upperclassmen chapters" and well they should.
