but the chapters will be interested in different girls, so it is possible that all 1400 girls could receive invitations, so moms, don't fret.

As we saw from the statistics noted above, the chapters at Illinois seem to do a great job of spreading the happiness around. Otherwise there would be a lot more girls cut or dropping out.

The girls have already started going to their parties after their first invites.(Sisterhood Day)
I did not hear anything yet, so I'm not sure if she didn't have time or was upset after her cuts and didn't call. She called her Mom but didn't leave a message. Not sure if anyone has heard how severe the cuts were today. Clara Mom, I hope you're
daughter is having a great day so far and you got a chance to talk to her.

I have not heard from my daughter. I texted her last night around 12:30 just to see how her second day went, but then it occurred to me that the NPMs were all probably still working out their lists. Did not hear from her this morning, and they started at 11:00 am and will go until 9 pm. I was hoping to hear from her this morning, but did not. I am not sure the timing between getting their invite lists and starting, so I'm hoping she has a fairly full schedule and just hasn't had time to call. The good thing, I guess, with my daughter is that no news is usually good news.
Of course, there's this little part of me thinking, "Oh god, she didn't get back any invites and is just too hysterical about it to call ..."

Ohhh that's really interesting! 4-H House has not participated in FR since at least 2006 (my freshmen year on campus.) The only chapters that participate are NPC. When Phi Sigma Sigma was on campus still they were the exception and only participated in informal.

Of course I can only speculate as well but I would bet she's just been busy with her parties. First invite is an incredibly long and fast moving day since it is the day with the most parties in a single day.
Hope you get to speak to her soon!

To protect the pnm's I'm going to call my girl Ava and her Mom Ann so I don't have to keep writing out, my friend's daughter etc. Ann is pretty nervous right now and super worried so you are not alone. I just read the RFM info you shared. Very interesting, I can see how it helps, but I can see how drastic the cuts are as well.
I'm more nervous now as I still am used to my system where the cuts happened much later. I have no idea how these girls wait a week for the next invites, but talk about teaching them patience early on. I will let you know if I hear anything at all, although the girls breaks will probably be staggered. Sending you hugs from here!

Actually, going over the Recruitment Booklet, it looks like there were 19 houses involved in Formal. So that would be the 18 GLOs listed earlier, plus 4-H House. Which makes sense, since 4H House is listed on the map included in the Booklet, along with the 18 houses. Which is weird, because it looks like they have about 50 girls in their house, which is even smaller than what quota should be this year, plus they are a "cooperative," which would maybe not be as attractive to the majority of NPMs.

Oh that's bizarre! I see where you see that in the booklet (on p. 19 correct?)
I'm guessing that that was actually just copied and pasted from last year when their used to be 19 chapters in formal recruitment (before Phi Mu closed) and no one caught the mistake. If you look at the formal recruitment website: http://www.illinoisphc.com/#_p.Recru...%20Information it shows that there is 18 parties for Open House round. The times also match up to 18 rounds and not 19.
However, if you talk to your daughter and hear different, please let me know! (I'm hoping you got to talk to her--looks like according to the schedule in the link above, she should have just finished an hour break!)

what is the rationale for including 4-H house in formal NPC recruitment?

4-H is a longstanding member of the CPH, will full rights to vote and hold office. I think this is because they have been there so long, and have a house. They didn't "participate" in the full thing, PNM's just visited their house and learned about them during open houses. They actually recruit graduating high school seniors in the spring and summer before they come to campus, and they are all women who participated in 4-H growing up.
As for the rationale? I think it was largely out of respect for the group, so that women joining the panhellenic community understood what and who they were, but it also had the benefit of making parties slightly smaller. Having more than 50 PNM's at a 25-minute party is really problematic; there is barely enough time to get them through the door before you are escorting them out again.

This is a really nice idea.
It might have been different back when there were more agriculture students (as at any flagship state school) but I'm sure that a lot of women entering the university nowadays have never heard of 4-H, let alone know that it has a sorority.

There is one unhoused sorority at iowa and they decided to try fr this year. It was a hard sell.
I hope your daughter is having too much fun to call/text I'm sending positive vibes her way!

I just talked to Ava. She was very happy to be going back to 13 parties today.
The girls did rank the houses in order last night 1-18 with 14-18 being their alternate or back up houses. (very well put in a different thread and sounds so much better) She did not receive an invite from her #2 or #5 and it does not sound like anyone was getting their first 13 back. I don't have any actual knowledge of any of this I am just sharing what Ava told me. Ava was very surprised #2 was not on there because she left thinking she had a great conversation and connection there. She had already visited with a house she had ranked lower the previous day and now loves them! It just really drives home the importance of keeping your heart open to the process.

13 invites and with only 2 of her top 13 missing from her schedule? Sounds like things are going well for her so far! I'm also happy to hear that she truly sounds like she's keeping an open mind (by having a not-so-favorite move up in the ranks).
I hope that everything continues to go well for your daughter!
