Him resigning also gives him a chance to appear, redeemed, for upcoming mayoral elections.

Well I was wrong. I didn't think he would give the seat up. Never underestimate the power of the wife. Wonder if she will stay with him now? I bet she will but I was wrong on him resigning so....

Why are you assuming it was the wife particularly?

probably because he was refusing prior, and there was a lot of speculation that once his wife returned from her trip she'd urge him to resign (like many others, including Pelosi)

1. I don't care if political officials have affairs if both parties are consenting adults.
2. I do care when they are hypocritical about it (as pointed out earlier, preaching family values and then acting the opposite, acting like allowing gay marriage will ruin the institution of marriage and then ruining their own marriage, etc.)
3. I do care if they engage in sexual harassment.

Nobody mentioned Clarence Thomas as one who got away with it. Perhaps most here are too young to remember Long Dong Silver and Anita Hill. I wonder if he would be appointed in today's culture.

As you said, like many others. I was just wondering why it was 'the wife' who had the power here and not the President, Pelosi, Reid, and a plethora of his colleagues who had all chipped in in the meantime since his original refusal.

He had told reporters that when his wife came home he was going to look her in the eyes and ask her if he should resign and make his decision from there.

I really don't think the pics themselves is a big deal. What bugs me is how this guy lied up and down and even went so far as to suggest that it was the whistleblowers (don't know what else to call them) that hacked into his twitter and posted those pics. No one seems to be making an issue of that at all.

Support for Weiner had softened to such an extent that he was forced to withdraw....

And what a shame. He was such a nice man....
right.

The sexual harassment is a bigger deal than the lying, to me. I really don't care if someone lies about his sex life because I really don't generally care about his sex life.

But sexual harassment is past the line where your sex life ends.

Also hadn't heard that particular bit about the wife, thanks for the info. Funny thing is, we don't really know whether she'd ok'd him flirting online with other women or not, we've just assumed that she's gonna be pissed for him doing it rather than perhaps pissed for being caught out like this (or taking silly pictures).

Meh, anyway, I generally like to leave peoples' personal lives alone with the exception of if they're being huge hypocrites about it - See Rick Santorum on abortion or Gingrich or McCain on sanctity of marriage or the recent NY State senator who changed his vote on gay marriage after it was pointed out publicly that he was in a relationship with another man. If they don't try and tell others how to live while doing the exact opposite, they deserve what they get.

This^^^.

One can be told by all your colleagues to quit and it can be ignored. When the wife says quit, you better quit. When she returned he exited. Unless, of course, it was Hillary who made him quit. No she didn't even ask her hubby to step down. So it must be the wife.

I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't "see" what those women saw in him. I'm sorry I'm sure there are better looking men in congress then him. Before I saw a picture of him I kind of assumed that he was quite attractive and that is why so many women continued to have sexting relationships with him. But man...impo...he is ugly. I don't know what those women saw in him.

The person I feel sorry for is his wife. Poor lady. Poor kid (since she's pregnant, well I heard she is).

LMAO!

On another note, all scandal/resignation/political affiliation aside. I cant say I'm sad to see him go. I've always thought he was an arrogant jerk, though some of his shouting matches in Congress were quite entertaining. A few times I thought the veins/arteries in his neck were going to burst!

this was a funny letter that a local morning radio station wrote and read on the air.

With Congressman Anthony Weiner’s resignation, the big question is, what’s going to happen to the Weiners?” Depends on who you ask. Some members of congress say he should have resigned and others believe Weiner should have stuck it out. Weiner’s pregnant wife Huma is telling friends its been days since she even thought about Weiner. She said Weiner is the last thing on her mind. As for his next move, Wiener got testes and said he has many balls in the air, but he has not made a decision on his future plans. He said “I just want to find a warm place to hide for a while.” The congressman was defiant prior to his resignation, telling reporters “let me tell you about my family. Weiners might get bruised, Weiners might get hurt, but a good Weiner never shrivels up and goes away.” House majority John Boehner (pronounced boner for the sake of this letter) says that a congressman is supposed to have morals. Weiner really sticks out. Boehner says on this father’s day weekend, “I can’t help but think about papa Boehner. He would be ashamed at how this Weiner has behaved.”

Nah, I see it. Some of it's the power, but mostly it's the attitude. I'm still on the 'I'd hit that' side of the fence, were it not for the assholery.
