Daughter's Decision Time
Daughter's first house for Preference Round was with the Buttercups. She really liked the sister she was with during this round and she also had a direct tie with the philanthropy of this house to her intended degree. She was moved by the show of sisterhood at the Buttercups. Next were the Lilies, her favorite from the start of recruitment. She knew a couple of the sisters in this house through family or friends and felt like she had very similar interests. She also really liked the sincere interest the sisters seemed to show her during each of her visits. She liked the sister who had been with her during skit and then again during preference round, and it was a bonus that this house was so beautiful. Finally, she visited the Magnolias. This was the house that she knew nothing about at the start of recruitment. She didn't know anyone at the house or anyone who had been a Magnolia. She had been very impressed from the start with the friendliness of the sisters. These girls seemed 'down to earth'. Her interest in this house had really grown over the week. Daughter had felt very good about her options all week, even though there had been some hard cuts. It was time for Daughter's decision and so on her bid card her choices were...
1.Lilies
2.Magnolias
3.Buttercups

Bid Day Gift Ideas??
Since parents/families don't go to Athens for Bid Day, we would really like to send some kind of gift or flowers to Daughter to be delivered after she gets her bid. We did get a flyer from Bulldawg Baskets at the parent orientation, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if this company is the only one doing these types of bid day baskets? Any other ideas or suggestions?? Thanks.

I don't remember any other companies, but I pledged in Fall 2002 so it has been some time. My parents sent a note and earrings through Bulldawg Baskets and I loved it.

Video of 2009 Bid Day
Friend just told me about this link on YouTube of last year's Bid Day. Wow, I would think this is a bit overwhelming for some of these girls. I may try to send it to my daughter so she and her roommate have some idea of what to expect (*I'm thinking only good thoughts about these girls, in other words, that they WILL receive bids )

Best of luck to your daughter and all the other PNMs - looking forward to seeing photos and hearing about all the new members.

That is strange ... why would a PNM suicide a sorority who cut her? Or even want to?

Why would a PNM write in a chapter they didn't pref? i don't even think my school allowed PNMs to do that.

We've mentioned this concept before on here. If a girl only has chapters left she doesn't really want, sometimes they write down "chapters that cut me and that I don't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting but I won't get penalized for dropping out and I can still get snap bids." Some schools allow you to do that, and IMO the PNM has the right to do this. This wouldn't make sense though, if the only group they put down is ABC. I thought you weren't allowed to suicide and then be eligible for snap bids or quota additions.
I think that before everyone freaks out, what needs to be considered is:
1) Even if the chapter made quota, did it put them at total?
2) Maybe the chapter cut too much and wouldn't have made quota without these girls.
3) We don't know WHY the chapter cut them - if they cut them because they don't want them as sisters, or if they cut them just because they had to cut SOMEONE but still would have bid them anyway. The rush chair (or whoever counted the votes) is probably the only one who knows that.

Something doesn't add up...
Disclaimer: I'm not involved with this panhellenic, so I'm answering in general terms ONLY as a chapter adviser who has done RFM on my campus and is familiar with the PROCESS
In RFM, the "flex add/remove" is a list separate from the daily invite back list, and it used by panhellenic during the process of bringing back the women for the next day. It allows panhellenic to either remove some the PNM's if the chapter is doing particularly well (ie more PNM's are ranking that chapter highly to return to it than panhellenic would have expected from their usual return rates), or to add additional women to the party if more women do not rank to return to that chapter, so that the chapter has an adequate amount of PNM's going into the next round to make them likely to meet quota. Both of these lists are put together by the chapter so panhellenic doesn't just willy-nilly remove or add women to the chapter's invite list.
As far as the bid list goes, chapters can choose to add women to their bid list even if they did not attend the chapter's party. This is often the case if they invite women to their preference and those women elect to go to other chapters, most of the time if the chapter liked those women enough to invite them for preference, they would be delighted to have them in the house.
That being said...its not really a flex list per se for the bid list.
And per NPC rules...a woman who single intentional pref's any house, regardless of whether or not she attended a pref party there, is NOT available for quota additions.
My best guess is that the chapter did not in fact make quota and made snap bids to those women who did not match through regular matching.

It's like they are rewarding the girls for suiciding despite the fact that the sorority didn't want them.[/QUOTE]
And this is simply not possible. No panhellenic could offer a PNM a bid from a chapter without their consent - only the chapter can offer a bid
I think often times a chapter adviser and membership/recruitment chairs will make decisions about who to make snap bids behind the scenes on the day of bid matching that the chapter doesn't know about. While those women who SIP wouldn't be eligible for QA, if they went unmatched they ARE eligible for snap bids or COB.

A chapter can snap to total, I believe.
