That was part of my critique for my Spike Lee film class. I don't understand why Spike did it as his family was huge in his conversion to Islam, and his aunt paid for his Hajj (pilgrimage) and his mentor was completely made up. With the amount of problems that family had I felt it took away from the strength of a broken family reuniting under a new religion.

Didn't his family really oppose the movie in general? I thought Spike did it to avoid getting sued for misrepresentation. But I may have made that up. I know he did say he wanted to emphasize how Malcolm was let down by every strong male figure (his dad, West Indian Archie, Baines, Elijah Muhammed) in his life.

I remember Sammy and her twin aging really fast, but Carrie was one of the few who aged appropriately from her pre-teen years onward.

The same for the Quartermaine kids (GH) in the early 90s, they were tots and suddenly teenagers.

I have not watched either since probably 97 (DOOL was on in the lunchroom at work), so I can only speak from what I remember.

The book we had for class, by Paula Massood had the chapter on Malcolm X called "Spike, don't mess Malcom up" which I thought was kind of a funny title. His widow, Betty Shabazz consulted on Malcolm X, so it doesn't appear she was completely opposed to the film.

During the time the movie was out we had 3 books we read in class (one of course was the Autobiography ) and all sources pointed that film inaccuracy out, that's why it bugged me so much in the movie. But you know, one can be consulted on, but it doesn't mean that the director has to listen.

I remember at one point Amiri Baraka led a protest over Lee directing the film.

It makes me wonder why soaps even have their female characters become pregnant, because the kid will have SORAS probably within 5 years. But man those women "look good" when their kid comes back a teenager, when they theoritically only gave birth 5 years prior. LOL.

GI Jane- while I totally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the concept of a woman competing against the men for a spot on the Seals. No way it would happen in the real world would (even though I believe that if a women is good enough to hold up against a man, more power to her and let her try).

I hate when a woman gives birth, 20 seconds later, she's sitting up, her hair is all done up, her make up is on, and everyone's just as happy as can be.

Yeah, right.

Yeah, right.

Or how about they make the birth look soooo easy. Like in Father of the Bride 2, Kimberly Williams (as Annie) isn't even breaking a sweat.

Just a few of my peeves but off the top of my head:
- High school prom scenes (no one's prom looked like THAT!)
- The fact that no one ever kills the bad guy who is killing everyone else, even when they very clearly have the chance to (dislike most action movies for this reason)

and while not "inaccurate", I hate when they have a car scene and the people aren't wearing their seatbelts.

When watching crime shows, I hate whenever they're looking at a crime scene and then someone immediately spots a glitter flake on the ceiling fan which ties everything back to Sally Marshall who happens to be dating Rob Johnson, the mass murderer.

Ridiculous.

I know this is supposed to be about movies, but we have mentioned some tv shows.

CSI Miami- while I enjoy the show, I find it really lame that Calleigh always shows up to a scene in like a $500 dollar outfit. She is usually wearing an amazing suit and some kick ass heels/boots. I'm sorry, I may not be a crime scene investigator, but I have seen the news and I have never seen them show up wearing those nice clothes that Calleigh wears.

We watch NCIS and look for the innacuracies as they depict Washington, DC and suburbs, the setting for the show. My favorite was when they went out Wisconsin Ave. and ended up at a farm, looked more like a ranch in CA to me-mountains in the background, kind of dusty/dry vegetation, was expecting Roy Rogers to show up... Hard to get to a farm on Wisconsin Avenue, since it is a major thoroughfare, let alone one with mountains in the background. Then they zip out to a suburb, and man, that suburb looks nothing like the real thing. Or they go to places like malls that don't exist, or confer with local police departments that don't exist either.

When guns keep shooting without reloading or when they are like twenty feet apart and they keep missing even though it is the showdown between the top two supposed badasses of the picture.

So true with NCIS! The dusty terrain is very California and definitly not anywhere in the DMV area.
