Just has to chime in on KK vs DD.
One of my friends says DD is the neglected, stepchild of KK.
There is no comparison - KK is the best!!! Although the sugar is like instant-diabetes w/flour but it sure does taste good.
Ideal08, I eat fried chicked gizzards, I really didn't think anyone else did that except back in Nigeria. My friends thought I was crazy when I made some.
I also LOVE fried plantains, Carribean and Nigerian patties (they're almost the same).
My auntie in ATL used to make da bomb collard greens. I need to go over there for dinner again
Has anyone tried Indian Food? I tried some stuff and it was really good but I can't remember what it was called.

What was in it? There is a lot of different Indian food, my favorite dishes are:
tandoori
samosas (the potato samosas are AMAZING!)
curry
nann
chicken masala
and these potato based appetizers that are SO GOOD, whose name I don't remember, lol.
Does anyone like Thai food? NYC has some good places, but New Haven had the BEST Thai places...mm...basil chicken and spring rolls...

Indian (Native American) candy - it's maple cured smoked salmon that's been dried - think sweet salmon jerky.
I've never had it, but it sells like crazy up here.
And Indian (South Asian) food here is FANTASTIC - especially if you go to some fusion Indian restaurants. The traditional stuff is good too.

*lol* Sorry Tony
That's one thing I could never get used to out there. The first time, I ordered it, I though the lady brought me spaghetti. *lol*
I like Mr. Bojangles though.
I love a good ol' Folgers can full of hot tamales!! For some reason, the ones made down South are THA BOMB!! I have never tasted any that compare (from a can, in a restaurant, etc.) anywhere, except in Miss, with some from Shreveport coming in a close second.
I also like Saqatash (sp?). With corn bread, of course.

I've been eating samosas forever - in high school back home, some lady used to make them. SO best believe that was lunch. They were so good.
I've had curry, roti and some desserts - I can't remember the name of the dessert - I want to call it gulab jaman ?sp
I'll find it
ETA: It's called gulab jamoon

Greek and Lebanese
Here in my neck of the woods and where I grew up there are an abundance of Greek and Lebanese foods and I love them!!
Let me give you the rundown...
- grape leaves (veggie)
- falafel
- chicken schwarma
- gyros (with extra cucumber sauce)
- pita chips
There's more, but that's all that's on my mind right now. Does any other area have a lot of these places?
Also, growing up in Detroit, we had A LOT of 24 hour restaurants, called Coney Islands. If you look in the phone book, there were like 100 of them in the city! Now, the only places that are 24 hours are Walgreens, Waffle House and Big Boy...
Can you grub all day and all night where ever you are?

Re: Greek and Lebanese
We have those places here, but they aren't Greek so much as Middle Eastern I thought. Thre is this one Israeli spot on 84th and Amsterdam that has the BEST FALAFEL EVER, AND their pistachio baklava is AWESOME.

My cousin's in LA go on and on about these donuts. I had the opportunity to taste one last summer....umm...NOT IMPRESSED!
KRISPY KREME ALL THE WAY! Now, I'm a Cali girl and it was all about Winchell's...until I had my first KK donut in '94.
ALSO, I love Indian food. I have about 4 Indian cookbooks. Love samosas, good tandoori or curry, palak paneer, aloo mattar, and gobi mattar. OK, I think I might have Indian tonight.

All I know is DD ain't S%^&! What part didn't you get the "S" or the "&"?
I thought that that franchise did not exist... I don't think it exists down here, unless that one in BR still exists.
