You'd be kicked out of our chapter meeting for that in .0000000239850 seconds - we actually had a situation where someone was texting & it was weird how we found out... one of our members came out of chapter to go to the bathroom. While there, a member of another sorority was in the bathroom texting & she laughs at my member and says "hey, I am sitting here texting with Sally-Sue-AXO right now!" The member came back & reported it. Needless to say, there is no more texting in chapter.
And not to say this to you personally, Rio, but I would be willing to bet that 99% of the people texting during chapter meetings, are the ones that call half our exec board after a meeting or before an event to find out details about something b/c they missed it in chapter

I completely agree - clubs and lounges in the city are way too loud to make a call. When I am out I will text people if we lose each other in the bar or to check on people who are running late. It's so much easier than having to run in and out of the place. Also if I ever need an address or something I might want to save I have people text me so I don't lose it.

Just like students who text or email during class.

VOTE yes for texting!!! I am addicted to it... I'd rather text than talk... I'm even willing to buy a sidekick just for texting purposes...

Oh, if the meeting is actually important I/we wouldn't. Also it helps that we have less than 10 girls in the chapter (campus average) so we don't
have an exec board and all that stuff for everyone to cause a hissy fit over. The atmosphere here is much more relaxed than most colleges.

I don't text. My roommate sent me a couple which was fine. Then a co-worker texted me and Sprint decided to charge me for receiving that one. I still don't understand why that one was charged but the others were not. It's not like any of us are using the same company. I was so pissed I called Sprint and threw a fit because how the hell am I supposed to control if someone sends me a text message??? I had them block any in and out bound messages and they deleted the charge. It's only 35 cents, but it's the principle behind the thing. 'Course I didn't tell anyone that I did that; causing me to miss my roommates birthday BBQ because he sent a mass text instead of calling to invite people!

I hate Sprint. I disabled text messaging too, because all my friends like to send mass text messages, because it's like, why should I be charged because someone sent me an unsolicited text message? People text message in class all the time, it's only a matter of time before profs start banning cell phones, along with the laptops that some have already banned.

OMG don't get me started on Sprint. They had told me that they were going to give me 100 free text messages b/c of a problem i was having with my phone, but instead of giving it to me free, they added it to my account and now I get to pay 10 dollars extra each month. I called to cancel, and the dude said "oh ok..i'm sorry we did that. Here let me give you 100 more FREE text messages as an apology" I asked him to verify that they were free and he said yes. Well they still charge me 10 dollars extra each month even though I told them to disable texting (which they didnt).
Now they are charging me "travel minutes" because i got my phone in Texas and i'm currently in California. booo. I'm glad my contract expires the 1st of November.

Don't get me started about them and their contracts. I've been with them so long that I pre date contracts! They call me all the time, leaving voicemail and numeric pages, to try and get me to add a line and sign a contract. I'm always asking them why I would do that when I don't need another phone for myself, my entire family is on Sprint, and to get a contract I'd have to pay $10 more a month to get half the minutes???? They don't care about customer loyalty, only contracts. They would not give me the $150/18months credit towards a new phone because I don't have a contract or spend more than $35/month. I've been with them for EIGHT years. Where do they think I'm going???

Couple of comments:
Personally, I think it is rude to text message during a meeting or class. Back in my day it was passing notes, equally rude. It's not a matter of the meeting leaders or professors throwing a "hissy fit", it's just disrespectful. I agree with AXO Alum.
I haven't dealt with Sprint but we have had a Verizon Family Plan Contract for over 6 years. Ever since our last renewal, the monthly phone bills have had errors. The last one had them charging for ALL minutes rather than nights weekends, InCalling, and FP minutes, thus bringing the invoice to 5x of the correct amount. It has taken at least 6 lengthy phone calls with Verizon Customer Service and ultimately a carefully worded letter to their Legal Department to correct this costly error.
I am tempted to switch but we stick with Verizon because it's the one service that gets good reception at my D's college.
