For the most part, good Southerners don't follow trends but rather stick with classic clothing that they've been wearing their whole lives.

Agreed. I'm not surprised that af and american eagle or whatever is so prominant in other parts of the country. However, in places like the south where greek life is a tradition and sometimes viewed as a part of becoming an adult, such clothing isnt appropriate. Hence, you'll see a lot of polo and brooks brothers, things that were probaby worn by the fathers of guys in fraternities. Its more about looking respectable than anything else.

No offense intended to anyone posting, but has anyone else noticed that there are a TON of new GC users posting in this thread? (Even though I'm pretty new myself)

Very "dickhole" statement. Sorry to be rude - but that just completely blows the ideal of a fraternity out of the water, to cut someone because you don't like the brand of clothing he wears. Just listen to that! Damn - glad I'm not in your area, sounds like you guys have completely morphed the idea of a fraternity into your own views and boundaries. "Hey, if that guy is wearing X brand of clothing, I'm gonna cut him! Screw him if he holds up to the values and ideals of the fraternity, if I see that moose, he's DONE FOR!" Wow.

That's not what I said at all. There are a billion nice guys, there are a billion great guys, there are a billion guys with good character... for the most part it's hard to tell one rushee apart from another because they all act the same. A good way to tell them apart is to observe what kind of class they have, because class is very hard to obtain. One way, (as there are many), is to look how he dresses. Apparently it's hard to find guys with class in Arizona. Guys who uphold the fraternities ideals, but also treat ladies with the respect deserved.

Pure and simple - I'm sure your fraternity doesn't know the meaning of class OR fraternity. What an ignorant thing to say, "It's hard to find guys with class in Arizona" - are you in fifth grade?! The founders of most fraternities would turn over in their graves knowing the likes of you are representing what contemporary fraternities "stand for". You should be ashamed of yourself; the fact that I wear A&F during class (Paul Smith and Hugo Boss) does not make me a "low class Greek" - and the fact that you even begin to surmise that makes you look like an absolute fool. Good job

I'd rather wear my Versace or Armani. Cheapest piece of clothing I own is a Calvin Kline.

I travel every other week for my job. The clothing trends are different for the east and west coasts.....but who cares. There are classy (and not so classy) people on each coast (and every campus). Not every brand works for everyone.....but again who cares. Its about knowing your personal style and works best for you and the area you live in.

There are obviously differences between what the South considers "fratty" dressing and what people wear on the West Coast. I know it's been discussed in another thread... one good example is the South Carolina palmetto symbol. Most people outside the South cannot fathom the concept of wearing their state flag's emblem on belts, flip flops, Tshirts, etc. and having that be a cool look.
BUT what's funny to me is the incredible emphasis on clothing that the fratty.net posters seem to express all over their message board (and now so graciously delivering their message here as well). They analyze what is Fratty and NF to agonizing detail... brands, colors, etc. THAT is pretty... um... brokeback. Some of those guys over there have lost the spirit of not giving a fuck, and that's pretty much what makes the whole look, IMO.

Very interesting words Carolina - wearing the state flag on clothing?! Wow, that's very - interesting. Interesting perspective though
PS - I cannot access www.fratty.net (I get a message "Website currently unavailable. Please check for messages in your Control Panel." Is anyone else getting through?

...Arizona Delt...you wear Abercrombie, no?
I win.
You didn't really make any coherent statements, and you didn't really make any definitive reason on why the fraternities founders would disprove of me or my fraternity. As I stated earlier there are billions of nice guys, funny guys, outstanding guys, easy to find. As I said earlier, the best way to figure out who is best to represent your fraternity is how much class they have, because, as I said previously, it's hard to obtain class.

You win? Your childlike antics seperate the men from the boys - or rather a true fraternal member (being someone who stands for brotherhood and friendship) from - well - someone like you.
If slapping on a suit from a certain manufacturer is your definition of class, it's a pretty easy thing to do. You're also excluding anyone who doesn't have the money to buy a nice suit. I have nothing more to say to you; all I can say is I'm glad your chapter isn't near me; your "clothing equals everything my fraternity members look for" philosophy is rather prejudice and repugnant. I have no interest in furthering this elementary rebuttle

Did I say clothing was the only thing I look at it when it comes to class?
No.

Is living in the south so boring that people in college dress like old men? If you're 19 and worried about looking "respectable" and judging people by how much class their clothing indicates they have, you probably aren't having very much fun, are you -- and you know, the people who call out others for lacking class are usually the ones who wouldn't know class if it bit them on the ass.
