I only came across one McDonald's while I was in Bangalore, India & I didn't eat there because the queue was around the corner, but I did look at their menu for a bit! McDonald's serves the McAloo burger instead of real beef-its a potato burger! They've got paneer salsa wraps (its got a mexican flavor to it-cheese, salsa, & lots of veggies) & veggie pizza wraps (like Totino's pizza rolls). Their non-veg menu had similar chicken & fish sandwiches on it & they had a sandwich that reminded me of a Big Mac, but it was 2 chicken patties on a sesame seed bun.

I also went to the McDonald's in France & Germany that served those thick potato fries as well as normal McDonald's fries. You can also get Dannon yogurt there too (well, at least in France!)

Beilieve it or not, the late Ray Kroc did try pushing a 'Hula Burger' as part of the SuckDonald's menu. And now, the rest of the story:

Quote:
Back in the 1950s, the fast food giant, McDonald's had a problem. Catholics who did not eat meat on Fridays would not buy burgers on Fridays. Friday sales were therefore poor in Catholic areas.

The solution? The "Hula Burger." Ray Kroc, Chairman of the Board, devised it. It was a toasted bun, covered with a piece of melted American cheese, mustard, ketchup, a pickle, and a slice of grilled pineapple. Note: no meat. And also, no buyers, or not enough. The solution was no solution at all. The Hula Burger died after a few months.

In 1962, the "Filet-O-Fish" finally solved the problem.

I'm kinda curious as to other McDonalds restaurants across the country. In Hawaii the McDonalds restaurants have the fruit punch, spam 'n eggs 'n rice and Portuguese sausage eggs 'n rice for breakfast, and Saimin (which is pretty much like ramen with garnishings). Do you know of any other McDs out there that have things on the menu unique to certain parts of the country?
In Oklahoma, we have brie and wine, caviar and lobster tail for McDonald's breakfast.

Can't find it elsewhere though...

Don't forget that over in France and Germany, you can get a cold beer or a glass of wine to wash down with your Big Mac. (Or as the Germans call it, 'der Big Mäc'. The Filet-o-Fish is called the 'Fisch Mäc" and - yes, Vinnie Vega was right - a Quarter Pounder is a 'Royale mit Käse". And Europeans like their fries with mayonnaise.)

Seriously?

I've always wondered why they don't have halal or kosher ones here and I thought they didn't because they make everyone buy the same meat.

Does it taste different?

In Fiji, there are items like the Chicken McCheese and the Salad Burger. I actually visit a McDonalds in every country I go to.

McDonalds has a manufacturing specification for every item on the menu, and use local produce and meats where possible, if they meet specifications. They do take into consideration prevailing religious and dietary concerns.

If I went to a Hawaiian McD's, I would think that "mahalo" was Hawaiian for "trash."

Is this true or were you joking? If not --- that's pretty nasty.

Otherwise, I don't mind the once in a while.
For me it was Ireland. Nasty and expensive - AND they had these minty green shakes for St. Patrick's Day. I personally don't think green milk is appetizing.

Tickled Pink 2,

I was not kidding when I mentioned that McDonalds here serves Spam, Eggs, and Rice for breakfast.

Hawaii leads the nation in Spam consumption. A lot of it has to do with Spam's historical effect on the state, dating back to WWII. People back then ate it, their children was raised on it, etc. etc. It's hard to believe, but Spam's always been a part of local culture.

I think it was CT4 who posted an article when McDonalds announced they were adding it the menu here. It sparked a lot of "EW, that's just gross" comments, but I've been eating it 26 years -- and I'm still alive, so it's not gross at all.

Spam's not bad at all, people. If it were, I'm sure I would have had abnormal growths by now.

They used to sell the Shamrock Shakes in Canada (at least in Vancouver) some years back. They were pretty tasty.

They used to sell those in March in Chicagoland when I was a kid. Nasty.

I LOVE Shamrock shakes!

I'ld like a Big Mac,
Mc BLT,
A Quarter-Pounder with some cheese,
Filet-O-Fish,
A Hamburger,
A Cheeseburger,
A Happy Meal.

Mc Nuggets,
Tasty Golden French Fries,
Regular or Larger Size,
And Salads: Chef or Garden,
Or a Chicken Salad Oriental.

Big Big Breakfast,
Egg McMuffin,
Hot Hot Cakes,
and Sausage.

Maybe Biscuits,
Bacon, Egg and Cheese,
A Sausage,
Danish,
Hash Browns too.

And for Desert
Hot Apple Pies,
And Sundays
three varieties,
A Soft Server Cone,
3 kinds of shakes,
And Chocolatey Chip Cookies.

And to drink a Coca-Cola,
Diet Coke, and Orange Drink,
A Sprite and Coffee, Decaf too,
A lowfat milk, also an Orange Juice.

I love McDonalds Good Time Great Taste,
and I get this all at one place...
