I like both of these above posts.

We always wore shirts or Coats and ties, but that was a long time ago.

But the thing is to run a meeting in a GLO, it should be run as a business as that is what it really is.

Dress like slobs, I am sure the meeting will be run the same way.

Strangely, when I was in school, you could wear your pin with jeans - if they were the type of jeans that you had dry cleaned - but never to meetings!

three times per month we have formal meetings with roberts rules and badge attire (where we have to make sure to cover the 4 b's boobs butt belly and badge, as our greek advisor so tactfully put it) and then once a month we have an informal meeting where roberts rules and dress code get thrown out the window.

Should wear letters or collared shirts. Cargo pants and jeans are fine.

That was rule when I started but it got lax as the years went by.

Also, Formal Ritual meeting once a month.

Formal ( atleast twice a month ) = "Badge Attire", so basically make sure everything is covered. No jeans, no flip flops, no tank tops. You have to dress up ALL DAMN DAY ( unless you're sick or any other circumstance and talk to the MAL about it, then you can wear letters and just dress up for dinner/chapter ) and go to class wearing your badge. No bellys, boobs or butts showing. Everyone just usually wears some form of black pants and a shirt/sweater because its easier that wasy. Oh and you need your badge, a lavialier or something with a sapphire on it.

Informal = Anything you want, but make sure you're wearing letters. A tee shirt, sweatshirt, pants...anything. Jeans are okay, and so are sweatpants really. Its just a very casual everyone sit in a circle, and you can eat while people talk.

Ritual = Welllll...yeah. All black and badges. Some of the looks we get when walking around in our all black attire is kinda funny. But still the no bellys, boobs or butts rule applies. Obviously.

Interesting thread...the definitions of "formal" intrigues me. I once read an article in our magazine by a brother "made" in the '20s. He said that in his chapter, Alpha, monthly chapter meetings were formal, that is "black tie"; he lamented the growing informaility in dress in chapter meetings. When I was an undergrad, our meetings were casual, since we almost never had formal ritualistic meetings. At grad level in the chapter I'm in now, the attire is suit and tie but this is not adhered to very strictly.

We didn't have an official dress code for chapter meetings when I was an undergraduate, but we usually wore our letters. Generally speaking, we wore our letters to campus at least 3+ days a week back then, or at least the colors!

Formal chapters are badge dress for us...and our bylaws are ridiculous about badge dressing. To the knee, nothing low cut in the front or back, inch and a half straps, no flip flops, no distracting patterns...but honestly I think dressing conservatively and respectfully sounds like enough. Informal can be anything...again, as long as it's appropriate. Switching it out is good...keeps members from being burned out on dressing up.

We have certain dress requirements for formal meetings, because the idea is that you "dress up to your badge." The most casual outfit you can wear our badge with is a sweater/dress shirt with nice slacks (not just khakis) or a skirt.

For any other meetings: most anything of normal wardrobe is okay, including jeans. Sometimes we ask members to dress "snappy casual" if there is an important visitor (like a traveling consultant).

We also have special PJ meetings sometimes for fun.

All across campus, we all knew who was Greek as we headed for our meetings. Those were the "Good ole' days" ?????

Business dress every week.

This includes:

Skirts [knee length or longer]
Non-lycra tops
Dress pants
Heels
Dress flats

Not allowed:
Gauchos
Jeans
Corderoys
Lycra shirts
Underwear showing [obviously]
Flip flops
Tennis shoes
Not having your pin
Short skirts without a slip

AST is quite conservative in business clothes.

We are asked to wear business casual, but people show up in whatever. At the very least, you should be wearing colors or a pin.
