I think another consideration may be transportation. Mackinac Island or Cape Cod would be great, but difficult to get to since you can't fly directly there.

For work I help plan a business convention like this every year. One year we went to Palm Springs. Everyone loved the idea, but the P.S. airport is so small with so few flights, that most people had to fly into Ontario (CA) or LA and then rent a car and drive. That did not go over well.

Chicago would be awesome though - especially because I am from there!

I just got back from vacation in Tampa/Clearwater Beach. Awesome!!

Oh, believe me that is most likely a issue when the 2 Marriott properties that could host it are both downtown (hello, clubland).

Mind you, Zeta Psi (2004), Phi Delta Theta (2003) and Alpha Phi (next year) had their Conventions here the last few years. It may be worth checking it out (mind you, I would preder for them to wait til 2029 or 2030 to celebrate 100 years in Canada like Phi Delt & Alpha Phi are..... )

It does take a lot for logistics, and as well, working out how to import all the Emporium items!!!

Okay Silver, the check is in the mail. You've paid me several compliments in the past few days. You're certainly good for my ego.

But the thing is that the places are never really close to the middle of the country. Yes, East and West coasts are great, HOWEVER those of us in the north always have to fly a long distance to reach any of the places - and we have a SMALL airport here in central WI so getting anywhere is at LEAST 2 legs (unless it is Milwaukee (too many summer festivals to make it affordable), Chicago (AGD was there last summer, Rotary had their 100th Anniversary convention this summer), Detroit (wouldn't even CONSIDER that one!) or Minneapolis (that would be a good one with lots to do!). Actually most people LEAVE the city on weekends during the summer - I live in Wisconsin where MOST of the people from Chicago have summer homes!

Like I said, I'm just whining because I REALLY don't like hot weather at all(I keep threatening to move to Alaska!). I'm planning on going in 2007 - and am even changing my check card so I can earn miles with my purchases!

Unfortunately, no matter what, we'll never find a convention location that will make everyone happy along with their checkbooks

I think it is hot anywhere in America during the summer. In 1997 it was pretty darn hot in NYC and Norfolk was as well. I just hope the hotel in 2007 is cooler. That hotel was not ice cold like in year's past!

I had the most amazing time in Atlanta, but it was sooo hot! I had such fun roommates and I'll never forget my first convention experience! It would be GREAT if it was on the west coast for once! I have to admit Phoenix is better, but Seattle would be perfect because it's not too hot or cold, it's about the mid 70's most of the time, not to mention it's only 5 hours from Tau Gamma! My favorite part was the PIP storytelling and talking with Ginger Banks!! I also loved seeing all of the alum's. It was so inspiring to see how many people are dedicated to AOII for a lifetime!
