But since she's well educated, her comments make her dishonest and spiteful and it turns my stomach that people call her a journalist. It's funny because if she's being defended as not stupid she's even worse off because a WELL-EDUCATED person doesn't pull a stunt like this.

Are you questioning the veracity of her resume?
What kind of a stunt did she pull? I think that she made a mistake about Canada's role in Vietnam. Are you referring to something else?

Actually that was a joke in reference to what one reads. I give people the benefit of the doubt personally. If you told me you have 5 law degrees I wouldn't go out of my way to prove you wrong.
But as far as her "mistake" it's one of two things.
1. She is stupid(book smarts and commen sense are two different things)
2. She is a very dishonest journalist (and I use that word loosely). You must understand a intelligent person like that get's the scoop about Canada's role in Vietnam before she shoots off the at the mouth.
Heck a decent journalist at least CHECKS their sources before they rant.
She's guilty of one or the other. Trying to spin this as a "honest mistake" isn't going to fly.

Umm why would she try and lie about Canada's involvement in Vietnam? People don't try and make up lies that serve no purpose and can be embarassing.
Now she is ultimately responsible for what she says - including the one wrong fact that is being discussed here. Dan Rather was responsible for an entire wrong, yellow journalism story.
I also don't think she is a journalist nor claims to be one. She is a political commentator. Al Frankel is also a political commentator and not a journalist. That's what they want to be and serve as.

I don't recall saying anything about her intelligence.

I don't recall saying you did either. Others did and you commented on my comment about it, and here we are today.

Regardless of what she calls herself shouldn't there be some form of "FACT CHECKING" before you come out and bash another country?
Oh yeah
Columnist=Journalist
Ms. Coulter is also a syndicated columnist
that came from this site
Her site
Oh the fact that she's trying to defend Butt Pirate is hilarious.

Before you attack someone's intelligence, check your spelling.

So much for shooting off your mouth without thinking. It seems to be something with which you are familiar.

Her role as columnist is to offer editorial pieces. She doesn't just show up to an event with a camera crew and record what happens word-for-word. She provides commentary and editorials on events. We're splitting hairs, but I'm trying to say she doesn't work as a Reuters correspondent recording just facts.
She writes for the National Review which is the Republican equivalent of the New Republic.

Awesome! Here you go Russ. For your troubles my friend.
But can you dispute the fact that she either
1. Doesn't have the common sense to do her work or.
2. Willing knew that her facts were not straight when she went on her rant?

Maybe we are splitting hairs but, where does it end?
If this was some cat off the street then, we can dismiss this but the fact everybody is willing to submit her accomplishments then it puts her in a worse position. The role of columnist is to give opinons and I'm fine with that but as a columnist myself, and a student of journalism we were taught that truth does come into play with your opinion.

Yes, truth does come into play with your opinion.
But opinion is liking chocolate over vanilla. Fact is saying chocolate comes from the cocoa bean.
What this thread is referencing is a factual error regarding Canadians sending troops to Vietnam, correct?
This thread isn't referencing an opinion on Canadian relations with America through the years.
Yes her fact on Canada was wrong. Will it ruin her career? No. Why should it? We can often all be wrong. Newspapers ALWAYS run correction notices in future papers because of that. But this was an interview and I don't know what protocol is regarding that. If it was the case that she lied always and is wrong on everything, then she wouldn't be writing for certain publications she writes on now.

Well other than the fact that she got such basic facts fucked up...
My take (please note MY TAKE) is that she represented the facts in a manner to back up her arguement - in this case that Canada had always supported the US until now, but doesn't anymore because of it's "Liberal" government.
This however is a gross misrepresentation (won't say lie) that many Canadian governments have in fact gone to war - even before to US -
However is this case she got caught in her "rant" (misrepresentation/lie) about a really general and well understood fact - the fact that more "journalists" at Fox haven't called her on her crap is actually more disapointing...
Sorry but she is a pathetic media hack - not a reporter or journalist.

Like I said, she is a good entertainer that knows her audience. She isn't dumb, she knows what sells. It's the same with Michael Moore, she is filling a niche market, brilliantly I might add.
