Whats your area called?

Orlando is huge so that it divided up into several parts depending on where you live in the city. The part of the city I live in is known as Waterford Lakes. Some other Orlando communities are known as Stoneybrook, Avalon Park, East Orlando, UCF Area, Dr. Phillips, Hunter's Creek, Metro West, Thornton Park, Downtown Area, College Park, Lake Buena Vista, Bay Hill, Andover, etc.

The rest is "Up North", which can mean anything north of the Tri County area.. or "Outstate" which is anything west or north of the Tri County area.

Woodhaven- The Woo, Wooha, The Wood
Riverview- Rumorview (small town, everyone knows each other), The View
Taylor- Taytown, Taylortucky (apparently people from Kentucky migrated there)
Southgate- Dirty South (I live here, I hate it)
Grosse Ile- Fantasy Island (it's an island or rich people)
Flat Rock- Level Pebble, Fat *expletive*

While it grates me, The Metro, Kansas City! AGD_Alum and I are catty wampus from each other!

I am on the Kansas Side, Kansas City, Ks. We are the Hot spot but still the step child!

Ah Well, figure in an 8 county area, The Metro is about as good as it gets!

My hometown corner in southeastern Alabama (near Dothan) has a couple of names...

The Wiregrass Area (not really sure why it's called that)
The Tri-States Area (so close to where Alabama/Florida/Georgia borders together)

Others that I've heard from particular ppl:
"LA"= Lower Alabama
"UCLA"= Ugliest Corner of Lower Alabama (LOL)

SoHo was the first, but my favorite of these types of names is for the northern part of Brooklyn's Fulton Ferry area: DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.)

I live in The Bay Area, more specifically Silicon Valley. I call my suburban city "the MP" just for kicks (because it’s Menlo Park). I don’t know anyone else who calls it that. Maybe it will catch on ;-)

Nicknames for places I live near: EPA, RWC, "the cats" (for los gatos). San Francisco is called “the city” or SF, and never ever does anyone call it San Fran.

Neighborhoods in SF: SoMa, Mission, Castro, North Beach, Marina, Richmond, Sunset, Presido, Russian Hill, Noe Valley... I don't know them all honestly.

Stanford has a lot of nicknames for places: MemChu (Memorial Church), MemAud (Memorial Auditorium), TresEx (Tresidder Express, a store), FloMo (Florence Moore Hall), FroSoCo (The Freshman Sophomore College)… the list is too long to recall, really.

ETA: Milwaukee is just Milwaukee. Or parhaps Mil-wauke, Algonquin for "the good land".

Menlo Park has alot of little areas to it as well. The Willows, Allied Arts, Sharon Heights,Suburban Park etc. Ahh.. I miss it. (kind of) I don't go down there often enough.
