It's been a rough week for me, so I wanted to post...

There are no buds this week, however the biggest rose and thorn was the same event. On Wednesday, I got a call from my dad saying that they had decided to put my male dog down (he's 11 years old and has heartworms). He said that if he put him down, he was going to put his sister up for adoption, and if she didn't get adopted he's sure the pound would put him down as well (it's a long story why). However, he made an offer to pay for $87.50 of my parent loan, so that it goes from $387.50 to $300.00 a month if I take on this dog. I already have a puppy, so he felt that it would be good for the older dog to have a playmate. So, I now have a big border collie/lab mix residing with a jack russell/chihuahua mix (and yes, it is a funny sight). So my rose is that I got a new dog, and my thorn is pretty much everything else that went along with it.

Mel, I'm so happy for you! We loved Rome! Gracie-poo should have a super time!

Well, I've had one heck of a week! I don't think I've mentioned it, but I'll be having a little legacy in November! YIPPEE!!

On to the thorns...which there just seem to be so damn many this week. I put my two weeks in on Monday. I've just had so much going on between me and the baby. It just seemed easier to take a breather. Tuesday, my husband called to tell me that he'd had an 'accident' during his Water Survival Training class. He was pulling himself out of the pool...in full battle-rattle...and ruptured the tendons in his left bicep. It is completely detached from his left pectoral muscle. He'll have surgery on Monday...good thing I quit my job, huh? There is good news though, he will most likely NOT get deployed again. We're looking at at least 4 months of recovery. Bad news, we don't know how his future looks for other employment. He's a K9 handler, and he won't be able to handle dogs anymore. Ahhh...I'm rambling. Thanks for listening guys!

Well, mine sounds like nothing compared to Venice, but I'm going to Vegas in two weeks. Pretty exciting for me, since Ohio is the furthest west I've ever been (and that's more north than west, anyway). I'm flying through Houston, too, which I've heard is an awesome airport. I think I'm more excited about the flying than the actualy Vegas!

Rose - I had an awesome time with my sister and brother in San Francisco for my sis's birthday. My sister LOVED her present - a necklace from tiffany's. We took her to the store, had her try it on because "I thought it was cute", and then said happy birthday!

Bud - I'm really looking forward to getting back to school.

Thorns - My boyfriend didn't get to come up this weekend (he goes to USC and they started back in August) because gas was so expensive and his professors piled work on him. I don't get to see him till October now because I'll be so busy with rush prep/rush itself.

Rose and Thorn - I'm taking care of my brother and sister while my parents are in Europe and man is it hard! Getting healthy dinner on the table, making sure the house is clean, waking up at 5 am to take my brother to water polo practice, rides to and from school, etc. All this while still working my full time job. I don't know how my parents do it!

Rose: I finished five pages in my scrapbook this week!

Bud: The progress on the Delta Iota house is amazing! I wish I knew how to post pictures so I could share. We're all so excited about recruitment and Move-In is next Wednesday!

Thorn: Lots of work to do for summer school finals before move-in.

Rose -- I got to see Andrea (HannahGirl) this weekend!! She was down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a family vacation so my boyfriend and I snuck down this weekend to see them before they left! Here are some cute pictures we took of myself and Andrea hanging out at the pool!

hey ladies....i have a request that i hope you all can help out with. i chose to put this in here because, well, it is very much like a thorn.

on Tuesday Jan 30th, the Kent State DGs lost a wonderful sister named Alicia to cancer. Alicia battled with this disease for the last few years and the DGs were there to support her in so many ways. They held pancake breakfasts, participated in Relay for Life, etc. Alicia was very close to many of the seniors of the chapter and they are in the process of coordinating a memorial service for her on Friday night. Alicia was only 23 years old.

Well....it doesn't stop there. Last Wednesday (a week after we heard the news about Alicia), a current member of the chapter and one i am very close to was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. it was quite a shock for many of us because she is a very happy, healthy 21 year old woman. she served the chapter last year as VP Membership and was currently holding the position of VP Recruitment on Panhellenic. she has since had to drop out of school and resign from her campus offices.

the Delta Gamma's at Kent are really hoping to bring a strong presence at Relay for Life this year and want to raise as much money as possible in Alicia and Kelly's names. If anyone is interested in helping them in anyway possible or even taking this back to your alum groups, please PM me and let me know. I think it would mean a lot to these women to see that other sisters around the nation are there to support them also.

It's been a long road for these DGs and unfortunately Alicia's journey has ended, but Kelly's has just begun.....Thanks a bunch ladies....this really means a lot! LITB!
