That said, I think that calling for a ban of a specific breed is completely out of line, especially the part about giving owners 30 days to "dispose" of their dogs. I would prefer it if police would do more to crack down on people involved in dogfighting and other forms of animal abuse.

Agreed. As with everything else, let's enforce the laws that exist now instead of creating more that are unenforcable.

i do agree about not breeding, but i think that it is necessary to preserve the breeds and have AKC quality dogs. trust me, i see it everyday when people drop off boxes of pups at our door cuz their lab, chow, rot mix or whatever got out and got knocked up. now that pisses me off.
spay or neuter your animals!!! it's not that hard and it helps keep the animal healthy and cuts down on a lot of those annoying bad habits (humping, spraying/marking). and with as many low cost programs out there these days, there is no excuse.
and i still think rudey is wrong and posted without education. although zta's post was great. i love those references. good stuff to know since i'm looking to get a pit or amstaff.

How did I post without education?? I posted about their history and breeding which is meant to be better equipped to fight. I am not wrong about this and even the zta posted that.

That still doesn't mean that you're educated about the breed which is the point she was trying to make.

ztabchbum, if this ban does go through (and I certainly hope it doesn't) have you made an plans for your dog? It's such a terrible thing and I would hate for anyone to have to put down their dog. Do you know someone outside of Chicago who could take the dog?

I educated myself as I stated in a previous post. I thought I made that point clear but I guess it wasn't clear enough for you. Once again, give it up Rudey - LET IT GO!

I think this spelling error is really really funny.
I also think that UChicago might be more selective than Stetson, but I just go to Marquette, so what do I know?

Ztabchbum's location says she is in Tampa, Florida. If that's correct, her dog won't be directly affected by the Chicago problem. I think she is just concerned for the breed in general, as these kinds of bans certainly can spread. It is already difficult for owners of these dogs to get homeowner's or renter's insurance in many places.

Ahhhh...thakyou. I probably should have looked at that.
But I do understand her concern. It would be a shame if anyone in Chicago had to put down there dogs because they could not find a home outside of Chicago for them.

This I agree with. I think that if it were to come to it, they should help owners find other owners.

Yes, my concern is for the breed in general. If this happens in Chicago - who knows where it could lead to next. And as to your comment on what would I do with my dog - I would move. And I know my boyfriend would have the house packed in no time. I'm sure people on here will think that's extreme, but that's what I (we) would do.

Rudey, you last post was great. that is the first decent thing i think you've said on this entire thread.
as for the education part, i guess that would come from my job. seeing as how i work with pits as well as many other breeds on a daily basis. i also am in the process of learning how to teach obedience and behavior so if that doesn't count, i don't know what will.

You're the one that said I lacked education even though I posted the history. But ok.

i meant about agreeing with lady's post. understand that the way you're coming across, at least to me and i think a few others, is that the entire breed should be done away with. that's what i disagree with.
