i had a friend who was still breastfeeding at 4 or 5. her older brother was still being breastfed while she was an infant, and he was 8 years old!!!

Apparently God was havin' a little brain-fart when he gave women the ability to nurse as long as the "child" was nursing.

I was in a store and look up and this woman has her daughter, who had to have been at LEAST 5 years old, hanging from her boob. What's wrong with putting the milk in a bootle??

I think if mommies just used a lil blankie or material to hide their boob from the world, everyone would be happy. I am not against nursing in public ..it's natural.

Sorry to be "graphic", but that would have the be less painful on the boob...5 year olds have TEETH (or at least they should...maybe hers were too soft from not eating solid foods...)

I agree, use a blanket or something. I personally would never breastfeed in public because I don't want people looking at my goodies.

Bumping because there was a discussion on anther MB about Barbara Walters' comments on this. One lady was like "breastfeeding is NATURAL!" I responded "so is pooping " and my God, you would think I said Jesus eats babies.

I don't want to see your kid breastfeed. I don't want to see it mash its food through its hair. I don't want to see it playing with its weiner. Just because you are in love with your child, doesn't mean everyone else is.

I don't think mommies should be breastfeeding in restaurants. Most places won't allow outside food anyway, so why feed your kid?

using a blanket is the answer.i managed to nurse my kids discreetly when i had to in public by draping a lightweight blanket over the baby and my breast. of course i weaned them by their first birthday when they could have cows milk.i understand that there is a young mother who designed this sort of apron which is on the market & has a slit for breastfeeding and a flap of fabric attached that lays over the baby so that everything is covered up. a lot of places do not have a separate lounge area in their restrooms so mothers do not have a choice. babies smell food and want to nurse. i don't know how many times i nursed the baby before we went to a restaurant(or ate at home for that matter) and when the food comes the baby starts fussing to nurse. my daughter (our first born)would not take a bottle or a pacifier and believe me, i tried every one on the market. the pediatrician taught her to drink from a cup when she was 4 months old-we held the cup and she drank away.

I have 4 older sisters and have seen more boobs-n-babies moments than I needed too. But, I don't mind it, seriously, just cover the baby and the boob up and no big deal

Now for the guys, some of you are joking around saying that you'd like to trade places w/the kid sucking on the mom right? Now have any of you tasted breast milk as an adult? Ya wouldn't want to, trust me. My sister once put some extra breast milk in a glass in the fridge, I being an idiot didn't ask questions about -what- kind of milk it was and took a swig. Yeah, all you mothers now can all laugh now.

I know that some malls now have "family bathrooms" and nursing rooms, Polaris Mall in Columbus has a nursery room in the women's room with rocking chairs, just for that purpose. I think if the facilities are provided, please use them. I really don't *want* to see nursing in public, but I understand the importance...just use one of those bajillion blankets you got for your baby shower and cover up.

Oh! And if I EVER saw a kid that could walk on its own breast feeding, I think I'd probably smack the mother back into her senses. That's doing more harm than good to the kid at that point and time. Imagine what it is like to go to Kindergarten or first grade and not bring a bag lunch because theyre still breast feeding!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEw
